Searching for Quality Installers
I received this message from Jane, of International Certified Floorcovering Installers, Inc.

I received a note from Steve Scott of Carpet Weavers, a major dealer with several locations. He is working at the Decatur, Illinois branch of the company and searching for quality installers.
... Carpet Weavers hosted a very large CFI certification and does promote quality installation.
If things are slow in your area, you can contact Steve. If you are looking for steady work and are willing to relocate, contact Steve. Carpet Weavers is having a better than average year. Steve relates that the cost of living is lower than that of a major metropolitan area.
He can be contacted at:

I am assuming that Certified Installers will be given preferential consideration.

To far away for me to consider, but i have some questions,
Are they offering more money for " Certified installers ",
Are the sales people and project managers " Certified " or qualified to sell installation.( i mean proof beyond they have been there a long time, it doesn't work for installers , why should it work for sales people ?)
I think these are fair questions, how does a certified installer from one part of the country know if a shop in another part of the country is worthy of his ability? where is there certification.

Re: Searching for Quality Installers
Don't you think those are questions that one should ask when they talk to Mr. Scott. For those of us that are not interested, it is none of our business. That would be like me singling you out and asking you what you make per week, and then all of us discuss if it is good income, are you worth it, etc.
BTW do you work only under the conditions you are wanting to ask?

Sorry Tandy, not trying to say Mr Scott isn't a great guy with a fantastic shop that treats installers like true professionals and expects them to be professional, he may be the greatest guy, with the greatest shop on earth. What I'm wondering is how do you know about a shop you have never worked for.
An installer could prove his certifications (Shaw, Mohawk, Armstrong, CFI, Forbo etc. ) and give a list of satisfied customers to show his ability's. Other than a phone call, how do you know a shop is any good.
What would you do to find out ?
I'm not asking him to post pay rates, just want to know if he pays more for certified installers.
Nothing personal against Mr. Scott, just asking the pros here what they think.

Re: Searching for Quality Installers
Ok I now understand what you are saying. I think employers should be checked out just like the potential employees are.

Re: Searching for Quality Installers
Since certified installers are a small minority, I would imagine they will hire non-certified.

Re: Searching for Quality Installers
I can't answer any of the questions. I only posted the request as a courtesy. Jane doesn't participate and Mr. Scott is not a member. I doubt anyone will be able to answer your questions except via the contact method provided.
Your responses so far would make an interesting topic of their own and I implore you to start a new one and not take the focus of this topic and this forum from it's intended purpose. That is to post leads or requests for products or professionals. It is not meant to be a discussion forum to debate or critique the hows, whys and wherefores of the individual topics. These excellent points and ideas are well suited to any number of other forums here at TFP.
Thank you,
Jim
