Re: he said, she said
If you can look that gal in the eyes and truly say "I love you" and she makes the same statement, how important is a floor. One of the greatest thrills in life is making the one you love happy.
Floors will come and go, but love only grows and grows if you work at it. Is what I want more important than what SHE wants?
Remember it is just a floor, and with your talents you can make it a masterpiece just for her and every time you walk on it you will know what you did was because of deep and growing agape love.

Re: he said, she said
Not me. To hell with what she wants. You tell her you have to have wood flooring ever'where 'cept the baths and laundry so's if anyone gets to sneakin' around, you can't hear 'em on stone, but you can make is so the wood squeaks just enough to know someone's in the hall or wherever. It's a security thing. That's it, a security thing.

Gotta back Rachael on this one, CP. The reason is this: how many of us have floorcovering projects at home that NEVER GET DONE? (Shoemaker's kids never have shoes ...) At least with stone you guys will never have to worry about replacing it again, EVER. Just make sure you throw some sort of radiant heating under it, or you are gonna freeze your feet come winter. Do you know what Booger is going to do to a wood floor? Gonna look like crap after a year.
Just my two cent's worth ...

Re: he said, she said
CP, is your house on a slab or crawl space? If it's a crawl space, is the floor system even strong enough for stone? Gotta have some pretty stiff joists, plus two layers of ply for that.
I know you already knew that, just reminding you there may be a way out.
