Latest project
This has been the last two weeks of my life... just installed on thurs and Fri.. this was for a life time friend... we have know each other since we were in Diapers... and I am betting we will be friends when we are in diapers again.. our parents were friends in High School. ( it is a small town thing for those of you in the Cities.. )
in one of the pictures you can see a wood grate that I made.. the cabinet had to go on top of a hot water radiator, so I made the grate and then there is a chamber that goes up the back of the corner cabinet, and there is another grate at the top of the corner cabinet to let the heat out... hope it works... still have the tinted glass doors to put on under the TV , when the glass get here...Had to order the glass from a company that I have used for years they used to stock it, but not now... I don't think anybody is stocking much of any thing now...

Why did you ever get into carpet in the first place? I love wood working but don't have those skills.
Daris
Daris, I actually hated carpet, and flooring in general... but loved the rug carving business.. and woven business. and thanks, to every one , I am not really looking for compliments, but want everyone to know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.. there was a thread that Barry put on her with that guy that did the Marmoulum Art... the point that I was trying to make on that thread, I believe that we all have the ability to do "art" work like that , or woodworking like I do.. Or woven work like Dobby does. because it is not really " art" like the masters . but Artisan work, that Artisan " skill" like that can be learned... one of my favorite sayings is "Skill is the result of Patience" I have watched many on this board learn just from reading a thread on here, or just from asking some one... what we do is nothing like Picasso, or Michelango, or any DaVinci... that is Art in my mind... and can not be taught, but anything I have ever done I can teach to someone... Hell I have my 15 year old nephew making a Guitar right now on the weekends and I will post pictures of the completed project ... the only thing I can't teach is to be patient, that is a skill that comes with age.. ( and hopefully wisdom) but as I always say ... what do I know.... thanks again and I will continue to post pictures of stuff is no one gets bored or pissed...

Chris how old do you have to be to get that word "patient"? Well I still haven't got it, thats why I admire guys like Barry, you and others that are able to spend hours just getting something just right. Even be able to sit down and learn something to be able to pass an exam you need patience. Me not got.

Jon, you'll get your patience once you get back into diapers.
Man, Chris. I wish that I had your shop. I like being creative, but don't have a place to do it......... not implying I could. You are a very well rounded craftsman. I'm tippin my hat in case ya can't see it.

I understand Jon, I believe that you just have to say to yourself that, I am going to be, what ever you are going to be.. much like saying that I am going to be happy not mad. or nice not mean.... but what do I know.

thanks lo, I have been collecting woodworking tools since I have been 7 years old or so... I will say that I was very lucky to have a grandfather, father, uncles, and even aunts that were in the business, and taught me.. and One other thing that I did was when I sold my store years ago, I built a 2500 sq ft building behind my house for a shop, (rug or wood working) probably the only "wise." thing I ever did in business.. Ha!
Great craftsmanship Chris!! thanks for sharing the fruits of your last two weeks of labor. It's also very humbling, as you give credit to your family members for personal accomplishment. (but what do I know )
Hey Chris--- hears a question for ya, Did you pull back the existing carpet, or go on top ?

good question mike... I always pull back the carpet and stretch up to any cabinet or shelve unit that I put in .... Funny thing... that is one of the many reasons that my father got into the carpet business 45 years ago... he always thought that it was "crappy" (he would use another term that means the same thing) Cabinet or shelve installation to put it on top of carpet... and living in a small community people found out that we could stretch carpet, and that too,was added to our "list of things that the Flynns do" it is funny how things get started... I wonder how many on this board said when they were young that " I am going to get in the flooring business" or it just happened because of need or economy or whatever....
and Mike, I have more than Family members that I am thankfull for... that have given me advice, or instruction for things I have done in my life... I live in a county that has less that 9000 people in it.. and I probably know more that half of everyone in the county... I have lived here all of my whole life and my great grandparents moved here in the 1800's. my wife's family moved here in the 1800's also.. so our roots are pretty deep... . there have been many in my life that are not family that I am grateful for and thankful for the lessons and experiences that they have shared with me...not just in "work" related issues.. and beleive me when I say that I am not smart enough to "figure" things out by myself, so it is a good thing I have many that help me with it... HA!
Thanks for the compliment.
