"Painting the house," in the Other Home Decorating & Remodeling Projects forum, begins: "So I decided to paint the house a few weeks back. I started in the master since it was in ..."
So I decided to paint the house a few weeks back. I started in the master since it was in the worst shape, and was something I could easily accomplish in a weekend. That was several weekends ago, and lots of days off and evenings as well, and I am just getting it done. I hate painting. My current paint isn't even in that bad of shape, it is just ugly. I asked the man I bought the place from if ugly paint was cheaper than just plain white and he said yes. It turns out he buys his paint from a place that mixes up old left over paint in big batches for house flippers for a couple bucks a gallon. Knowing this guy it didn't surprise me much.
I spent most of today cleaning out and painting 2 big closets. The pic is what came out of just one of them, and that is only what I am throwing away. I salvaged several old video and sound cards, a couple hard drives and a bunch of other stuff. One of those computers in that pile actually still works. It is too slow these days to do much of anything with and I need the closet space. I also threw out 8 motherboards, 11 hard drives (I kept anything over 100gig) a couple routers and I forget what all else. I'm sure some of it still works, but I know a lot doesn't and I'm not about to go through and plug everything in to find out.
Next up is the computer/music room. Just moving a typical computer room is bad enough, but mine? Sheesh. If I ran in to a set up like this in a house I was to carpet, I would laugh and walk off the job. It not even the three 27" monitors or the amps and speakers and guitars. It's all the cables! It is a cable, cord, 3 year old petrified potato chips and long forgotten power transformer graveyard under my computer desk. I even have a dead UPS and subwoofer under there I never bothered to haul out. The sub makes for a nice footstool.
I'm also planning on building a uber computer desk at some point. Partially, because I want an uber computer desk, but also to see if I have the patience/talent to build my own cabinets when I get around to doing the kitchen. I'm not sure if I will set the computer back up in here once I get it painted or start on building my desk while everything is out of there. So I could be off the grid for a while. Well I could be if it wasn't for the laptop, HTPC, iPad, iPhone, hell, I guess i could login via my server if I had to. Someone needs to schedule me a tech intervention pronto.
