A new article,
Patching Vinyl Floors, by Jim McClain, in our How-To section and extensively illustrated, describes the procedures for patching small burns or holes in vinyl flooring. It is accompanied by a companion,
PHOTO ESSAY: Patching Vinyl, for our visitors who appreciate bigger images and less talk.
This how-to will guide the home handyman (or woman) or the pro in the successful repair of today's sheet vinyl products sold for residential use. It's a method I have employed for many years -- long enough for me to see how it looks 5, 10 and even 15 years afterward. I believe a patched vinyl floor should not be seen.
The patch fits snug, matches its surroundings and is sealed to prevent shrinking and curling. It's practically invisible. A small patch like this takes a pro less than an hour to do. Even the accomplished DIYer can do this in nearly the same amount of time.
This method has been used by Jim for most of his 35 year career in flooring installations and repairs.
