Topic: CONTEST: The Tuscan Leveling System Give-Away
The Tuscan Leveling System Give-Away
To mark our second year of operation, The Floor Pro Community is having another contest. This one is for Stone and Tile Professionals. This contest features the Tuscan Leveling System, the first truly simple marble, slate and granite tile leveling system. It is easy to learn and use at any skill level, eliminates lippage, prevents movement, drastically cuts installation times and increases profits.
This contest is a trivia contest and all stone and tile professionals are eligible. First Prize is a Tuscan Leveling System, including the High Performance Mark 9 Installation Tool, 250 Caps and 1,000 Straps. See the pictures below - click them for a larger view.
Second Prize ... is another Tuscan Leveling System! The only difference is this kit includes the Standard Installation Tool and the bucket has a McGire-Nicholas WorkWear combination Bucket Lid/Seat that turns any 3 or 5 gallon bucket into a seat.
These prizes have a suggested retail value of more than $900.00 each! If you are a stone and tile professional (installation OR retail sales), you can win one of these kits by answering 10 trivia questions and adhering to the rules of the contest listed below (see the small print at the bottom).

Re: CONTEST: The Tuscan Leveling System Give-Away
I forgot to update the staff list for the contest (for purposes of this contest, advisors, contributors and emeritus staff - aka former staffers - ARE eligible to win prizes). The list is updated now and all those on THIS PAGE are NOT eligible to enter or win.
Good luck to everyone.

Re: CONTEST: The Tuscan Leveling System Give-Away
I was reminded about an important rule I left out: No employee, agent or supplier of the Tuscan Leveling System or their affiliates are eligible Sorry for my mistake. No entries have been submitted yet, so no harm.
So... what are you waiting for?

Well, I'm about an hour and a half late getting this topic open, but here it is. Please post the answers to the trivia questions here. You can also continue to send them to me in a PM in order to protect your answers, if you choose.
The winners will be announced Tuesday. Good luck.

The correct answers, supplied by the prize donor, with additions of my own research, are as follows:
1. Michele Volponi (Answer can be found on the Tuscan website under contacts)
2. Bardiglio or Carrara Marble
3. Florence
4. Crushed burnt limestone mixed with sand and water, often with pozzolan and additional brick- or stone-dust (aka cement).
5. Viareggio / Tuscany
6. The construction utilized a careful combination of types: concrete for the foundations, travertine for the piers and arcades, tufa infill between piers for the walls of the lower two levels, and brick-faced concrete used for the upper levels and for most of the vaults. Roman Colosseum - Rome, Italy - Great Buildings Online
7. Italian descent
8. White Carrara Marble.
9. TLS website video - he's the narrator.
10. Empire State Building, the Pentagon, the National Cathedral, Department of Commerce and many state capitols. INDIANA LIMESTONE COLLECTION CA. 1910-1984
It appears that everyone got some questions wrong. The most common error was the Jim Hoffman video. The Hoffman website offered by some is not the same Hoffman and there are no videos on that site either.
The question of the inventor specifically asked for a "proper" name, which does not include the nick-name he goes by, Mick. Another common mistake seemed to be confusing concrete with cement - they are different. A couple of answers offered Pozzolana, but that is just one ingredient of early cement.
Only 2 entrants missed only 1 question, according to the information I have. First and second prizes are then awarded based on the entry times.
First Prize goes to magnum P.I. (May 8, 11:21PM). Congratulations!
Second Prize goes to flooru (May 11, 9:01PM). Congratulations to you too.
The winners can contact me with their mailing addresses (no POBoxes allowed) so I can ship the prizes out. Thank you to everyone who participated. Our next contest will be in June and the prize(s) will be specifically for hardwood and laminate flooring pros. Tell your wood and laminate friends to join us here because if you aren't a member before the contest starts, you won't be eligible.
