Re: Trowel notches

I haven't worked an 8 hour day in years. If I did it would take my knees 2 or 3 days to recover. 5-6 hours a day is about all I can do anymore. It didn't seem like that many years ago that I could work 12-14 hours everyday for days on end and not even think twice about it. I think Mick Jagger said it best, "What a drag it is getting old."

I hear ya Red, pretty much in the same boat.
My favorite quote about getting older is from a guy I worked with who was in his
70s. He told me "Old age is not for wimps".
Boy was he right!
He also told me to always use the correct trowel notch for the correct material. That's what the little pictures on the side of the buckets are for.

Re: Trowel notches

Bill, the sad part is that I ain't that old, I'm only 46. I used to play mens rec hockey when in season and I haven't done it in 3 seasons now. I LOVE HOCKEY and at one point in time I was rather good at the sport. The last year I played took to much recovery time for my knees. I'd be useless for a day or two after a game, not a good way to make a living. I guess part of the problem is I can never play the game easy so as to try and save the knees. All out or nothing. I chose nothing because if I wasn't able to play all out and still do my job it was time to stop. Maybe one day if I ever get out of the biz and get a desk job, I'll take another crack at the game. It sure hurt me a lot to give it up because I've been playing it since I was 7.

I've been thinking very seriously about getting out of this trade in the near future but it's the only biz I've been in for the last 23 or 24 years and in my area other regular jobs pay peanuts so I guess I'll keep at it for a while yet.

You guys are soundin kindda wimpy out there. I am 50 and can't wait to get to work everyday, if I got enough work I work 8 to 10 hours with little problem. I learned a long time ago, the trick to stayin in shape for this work is a stationary bike. It works yer lower body and gettin up and down is the biggest part of this trade. And it aint too late to start. I got mine right in front of my tv, and if it is a 3 hour ball game, I am ridin the thing fer 3 hours.

Sheesh. I'd get tired just watching seven jet ski championships.
If I want to stay in shape.......... I just stay at a Holiday Inn, then make somethin' up.... I'm not a marathon runner, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

That's pretty impressive floorguy.

Back in the day slamming 150-180 yards of carpet,in new construction a day, working solo, Them guys didn't have a chance.

Don't rag me too hard about the pink helmet, and grafiix. It was "in" back then in the early 90's. I got new stuff for the World Finals. That was my first year racing. I won the Novice Championship that year.

Re: Trowel notches

I have never done anything like that, I used to play tournament chess when I was younger, had some impressive showings and games, a trophy here or there. Nowadays, with work, the wife to be, and everything else, things have drifted along.

I did a 14 hour day today, and I actually look forward to only working 12 hours tomorrow, maybe 10-12 on Friday, and I lucked out on getting a Saturday off, but I have to work Sunday. But traffic is not so bad and I will save an hour plus.

Never been on a jet ski, I am sure I would win the fastest to crash into something award.. I had a chance, but when you are on a beach and your girlfriend is saying you will kill the dolphins (insane girl) you just walk away and say, okay I won't rent a jet ski, if we can watch a game in the Bar.
