Do you know (trivia question)?

I was watching a little DIY Tv this afternoon on a break and they give you little tidbits on things when going on commercial breaks. There was one that caught my attention really quick.
The question is-What tool was invented or patented off the carpet industry in 1830??
Hint: It is something that all of use probably most every week in the warm months. It was the first mechanical one.
I'll tell later.

Bingo!!!!!!! Jerrry got it. How'd you know? A guess or did you see the same program?
Now I don't know if it is the reel type or some other kind. Todays shearers are the reel type in carpet.

Is it like the pecan tree? If so that would be 7 years old.
