ScamBlocker

After deleting Norton, I went back to the default that my service provider has.

It has ScamBlocker, SpamBlocker and PopupBlocker, along with Firewall and virus protection.

When I come here, it pops up the scamblocker warning window, that another computer is trying to communicate with mine? It doesn't do it anywhere but here.

What is happening???????

Re: ScamBlocker

What page are you coming to that gives you the warning? I can tell you what processes are occurring on that page. I can guarantee you that the only things happening that could be construed as communication, is the cookies we and all other vBulletin websites use. There are 3 different ways to configure the cookies so they remember what you have read here. I set the cookies to "Database (automatic forum marking)", which seems to work better than any other method, especially for those who spend more than a few minutes on the site.

Other than the cookies, there are other processes that run on different pages. One thing that could cause some pinging back and forth is the security of The Professional Forums. Those (and a couple of other things) are private and the software must check your permissions and options to be able to enter those areas. This forum also uses a search engine optimization program that rewrites the addresses to all articles, topics and messages. Part of that software also assists Google Adsense to gear the advertising to the content of the page.

Nothing on this site will collect any personal data that you haven't supplied it. Please take a look at our Privacy Policy concerning that. We value the privacy of our members as much as we value the security of this site. We have made sure that both are protected.

Let me know what page that error happens on. Also, is there a configuration in the software that lets you tell it what sites are trusted and what sites are not? I do know that browser software allows you to do that too.

Thanks for discussing this with us.

Re: ScamBlocker

It happens when I click a thread link in a forum, as far as I can tell.

Earthlinks, Security package.

Re: ScamBlocker

If it does it when you click a thread link in one of The Professional Forums and not when you click one in one of the Do-It-Yourself & Consumer Support forums, then it is probably just the checking permissions process. If it happens only on forums other than The Professional Forums, then it's probably the Google Adsense process. Neither of those is actually accessing your computer.

Earthlink, unfortunately, is not known for quality software. In fact, they have one of the highest rates of false positives in virus and spam detection and justify it by saying too safe is better than unsafe. Please let us know if one of the above 2 scenarios are true.
