Re: promoting "The Floor Pro" website

I TOO THINK THIS IS A GREAT SITE! Sorry caps lock was on.

Anyhoo, I posted something about how the site would not receive as much traffic as it could because of the format. Many of you stated that this was the best way to do it where everything was broken down into topics and each discussion getting left behind by the next one posted. Unfortunately I still don't agree. You stated it was simply that I was not computer savvy enough to negotiate the site. You could be right since I find it best to have pencil and paper handy when I post something on this site so if it's a few days before I get back to look for replies I can consult my paper note as to where on the site I posted.

I did have a thought that I'm very sure will never get used but thought I should throw it out there just in case someone was looking for ways to boost the amount of discussions and hits.

As I stated some time ago one of the things that makes the other site so popular is the format. If I'm in a hurry (usually during the work week) I won't bother looking past any topics that are not on the opening page of this site, which are the most recent post for each topic. I then immediately go to the "other site" because I know when I open that page I can easily scroll through the topics and see what's hot and what is not.

I guess it's like being in line at the grocery store and seeing a mag that looks like a dictionary and then seeing the National Enquirer. No matter what you think of the Enquirer it makes you look.

What makes that site unique is it's like a news paper that has it's headlines written for it by it's readers for free everyday!

So my idea was .....why couldn't we have that format here for say the first 3-4 days (maybe a week) of a post then it would get shipped off to a categorized area where it could be researched at a later date. If something like that could be implemented I would see no reason to post at that other site again.

I just don't always want to take the time to look for something interesting to discuss on this site. Sorry, I just think our time is stretched so thin and our attention span gets thwarted in the mean time.

For what it's worth

JD

P.S. Please forgive me if I forget where this post is.

JD, no need to ask for forgiveness.

Some like this format, some don't. I think it has to do with the software used to run the forum, eventually Admin. will probably fill us in.

What I do is take a quick scan down and if nothing catches my eye I have a couple of favorite areas to look in. I usually check at 6 AM before I scoot for work then spend more time later in the day or evening.

Re: promoting "The Floor Pro" website

Actually, we have a feature very much like what you are asking for, Jim. It's just a click away - up at the top right of the page you will see "Welcome Jim Dandy". In that same little box is a link to New Posts. Click that and you get a page with all the topics that have been discussed since your last visit. Click the little graphic that points down and you go to the first message in that topic that you have not read. Click the back button to go back to the New Posts list, or just click the New Posts link again and get the new list. It will always show you topics that you have not read yet and have been active since you last looked at it.

Hope that's what you were looking for or makes it easier for you and others. We're glad to have you here.

Also after posting your own message if you skip past the first button that says "Submit Reply" and move down to the second Submit Reply button (below the first one a short distance) you have the option of notifying yourself by email (called Thread Subscription) when posts are made to the threads you have participated in.

Click on the "down arrow" then click on "instant email notification".

Re: promoting "The Floor Pro" website

Thanks guys,
Your getting closer!
I guess the thing is I wasn't really thinking of just myself, knida thinking of the inclusion of a wider audience you know the bigger picture.
OK last try......Imagine your a busy executive you get a hundred or so emails each day that must be dealt with, this is not uncommon as my wife is in this arena, you also have people you must deal with face to face solving or at least trying to figure out how to help them, did I forget to mention that you also have to get your work done which has lots of events that cannot be met in a defined future.
Now there our some moments that can be stolen away, say when eating your sandwich while at your computer, you think, "I wonder what's on those installers minds". Where you gonna go?

Thanks again for your responses. I'll drop it.

OK OK OK, anyway, WELCOME Jim I know you'll get something figured out for operating this website. I am beginning to see where you may have come by your handle honestly.hehehe

I should also mention that you can view your own latest participation in all threads (thereby locating everywhere you have been and in what sequence) simply by clicking on your user name and then clicking on the area you want to go to next in the drop down window, such as "View all posts by Jim Dandy".
