Black screen

Sometimes when I hit the submit button to post a reply, I get a black screen. I hit the back button, and then reload, and my post is there.

Anyone else have this happen??

Re: Black screne

Yes, that is an on-going issue with the Mozilla rendering engine or something. When I use Firefox, it comes up a white sceen. Firefox and Netscape both use the Mozilla core.

Playing Around

In post number one I saw an opportunity to make an edit and hoped because of the nature of the thread no one would be upset.

I wanted to change the spelling of "screne" to "screen". I had noticed that Nick had been in there before me and I'm wondering if maybe he had the same idea.

So....I now see that the main title of the thread can't be changed at my level, I was however able to change the same spelling in the sub-title. I then noticed that by doing so the spelling changed in only the post I entered to edit and not any of the other posts. H-m-m-m-m-m-m. I guess it's up to ADMIN (ADMINT) now.

Re: Playing Around

Now you went and edited Floorguy's post. The poor guy doesn't get enough torment everywhere else, ya gotta go and leave a mark in his post (edited by Bud Cline). He's going to have a persecution complex before you know it.

I'll fix his spelling now that you already made him look bad, but don't be surprised if you get taken off his Christmas list.

EDIT
PS: It's okay to edit a topic title because you can do that without editing the message, but please don't edit a person's post just to fix a spelling error.

Give Bud a cigar .. I posted this .http://www.thefloorpro.com/community...3-posting.html
I even correct my misspelled words from posts at 2 am .. I think we look better to the diy community if it looks like we can spell ..

Re: Black screen

Does the quick reply box have a spell check feature.

I swear, the older I get, I can't spell half the words that are easy. Early old timers symptoms.

Re: Black screen

No, the forum software doesn't have a spell check feature. It's the browser or add-on software for your browser that has spell check. I believe Firefox comes with it and there's a great one for IE called IESpell, which I think also has versions for other browsers.

We only look better to the portion of the DIY community that also knows how to spell. You would be surprised at the misspelled search terms that result in nearly as many hits as correctly spelled terms. In addition, Google will often times suggest the correct spelling of a term, as well as posting the results of the misspelled term.

I think it's a personal matter. If we edit a lot of misspelled words in everyone's posts, we are meddling. It looks too much like censoring or a control issue. You can let them know via PM ,email or even a reply to the topic that there might be some words they want to correct, but let it be their choice, not yours. Every time you edit a post, your name is attached to the bottom. Just let it go.

Thanks.

Re: Black screen

NICK DID IT FIRST!

Seems Nick is off the hook tho because my edit attempt overroad his edit remark and now no one knows he was there too.

I wasn't criticizing anyone's spelling I was simply practicing my moderating skills. Hell if you (ADMINT) hadn't drawn so damned much attention to it no one would have even noticed.

God knows I'm no one to be correcting anyone's spelling errors - next time I'll practice on my own posts thank you very much.

Besides.....shouldn't the word "floorguy" be hyphenated? (floor-guy) OK OK OK NEVERMIND.
