I must be stupid as all get out. I am attempting to post a picture which always turns into a real ordeal for me.
I find a picture, then I have to resize it with IrfanView, then I save it to my desk top, then I try to browse/upload images, then i hit upload... i keep getting a message too many pixels i think.
What do i have to do now? I get terribly frustrated working with images, so please forgive me if you think I am ranting . I just can't seem to get my head around all this and am pleading for a simpler way to post some pictures in the forums.

Pixels is a unit of measure in computer terms. It's a tiny dot. You can relate it to your screen resolution, which is something you can set in your desktop Properties (right-click the desktop and select Properties - go to Settings and see Screen Resolution in the lower left). The average screen resolution for most Internet surfers is now 1024x768px - that's 1,024 pixels wide by 768 pixels high. Yours might be different.
The largest image I set the forum software to accept for upload can be no wider or nor higher than 750px ("px" is short for pixels). It can also be no larger file size than 146 kilobytes (KB). But I also set the display so that images larger than 350px in either direction would be turned into a thumbnail image that can be clicked to see the larger version.
Some image editing programs will resize the dimensions of an image, but they will not reduce the file size, or at least not by much. So, you may be getting an error message if your uploaded image is too wide, too high or too large a file size. Although editing images for quality and size is a learned skill, uploading images here couldn't be simpler. In addition to the forum uploader, we also have an underused Gallery that allows you to upload images with even greater ease and it will also generate the code for you to display images in the forum messages so they fall where you want them and in the larger size (up to 750px either direction).
Please lets have some more feedback on this subject from everyone interested. If I need to change something to make it easier, or write up simple directions that you can click to view while you do uploads, I will.
My apologies T, it is the "exceeds 146 kilobytes" message I am getting. Not the pixels. I have resized the images under the pixel limit but i still exceed the kilobytes limitation. I mistakenly thought that using Irfanview to re-size the pixels would also lower the kilobytes. Maybe i need to go lower on the pixel sizing even more when I do the image resizing.
Sorry for being a pain, I'm trying to ascertain all this.
I just raised the dimensions limit to 600px so that the uploaded images will be bigger. The max is still 750px and 146KB. I also changed the upload entry boxes from 6 to 1, but you can still upload up to 6 images per message. You'll just have to do each one separately. I had to lower the number because of the error correcting measures the server has to go through that causes errors when the number of upload prompts are too many. Can't win for losing.
It's me. OK, i got one picture to post in the inspection forum. The other picture is 159 kb's. No matter how much lower i go on the pixel size the kilobytes will not reduce any.
How does one reduce the kilobytes when resizing the pixel size?
I’ve been having the same problem. I figured it was caused by my new camera. But even when I resize the photos and the size says 15mg, the ‘file too large’ message appears. Grrrrr!
The only thing I’ve found that works is to scale the pics down to a file size less than 10mg and then it works. Go figure.
Not wanting to complain, cause I always just figured it was my computer, but,... every time I try to post a reply, by the time I’m onto the third or fourth line, my computer freezes totally. The only way I can post on this site is to draft my reply in a word document and ‘cut & paste’ here.
It’s been really-really-really-really frustrating and I’m not complaining, but I will be honest, this greatly limits my participation here. Again, I’ve always figured it was my computer, and want to get a new one any way, blah-blah-blah... just some feedback in case I’m not the only one this happens to. And yes, this is the only site where this problem occurs.
Nonetheless, this is a great site and I will hang-in and persist with a happy smile always honored to contribute and share in the discussions in a positive manner. Thank you for this great site!
Don't know what desktop you use, but I like Windows Classic. The way I resize is actually pretty easy. I right click "my computer", go to the file where the picutre I want to upload is is (I keep my picture file in the "Filmstrip" view set up under the View menu), double click the thumbnail and it should open in Microsoft Office Manager. Left click "Picture" and ten click "Compress Pictures". Usually the "Web Pages" on the right column will get it to a size that can upload. There is info below that tells you the compressed size. Save under the title you want (I use "Save As" under the "file" button).
Back at The Floor Pro, click the paper clip on the top row of the reply typing box and the attach window opens. Use the browse to locate the pic you just saved and attach it.
Sounds complicated but only takes me a minute or two to do.
ADM, I would like a tutorial on how to put large shots in the gallery. Sometimes the detail needed is lost when they are compressed to attach directl;y to the post. THANKS!
