Now What?

Suddenly I am having the same issues as Lo.

Script on this page may be busy or may have stopped.
Stop script / Continue
Can't get away from that message. Pages are very very very very slow to respond.

In fact a few minutes ago I had to pull the plug on everything and reboot to get away from the site entirely. Everything froze.

ADMIN you been tweakin' the site again?

Re: Now What?

Yes, as a matter of fact, tech support was online editing some critical files, which I am sure caused some issues for those online at the time. All fixed now though.

Re: Now What?

I still have the issue same as before. No change.
I will have to check out Firefoxes dates on 'updates' and find out if I can update to the next higher level without including the current one.
If I can do it, I will pass on the results.
Bud.... what level of Firefox to you have? ....... or ..... I guess I need to first ask if you even have Firefox..... do ya?

Updates aren't like in the olden days, Lo Down. Used to be, an update was just for new features or to fix a bug or something. These days, updates, especially for browsers, fix security leaks. If you don't update, you leave yourself open to all kinds of security threats.

Neither FF or IE's popup blocker is nearly as good as the one that comes with the Google Toolbar. IESpell is a much better spell checker than any browser's own spell checker. IE manages tabbed browsing better and I think it renders text much better than FF, especially with Clear Type on.

When I first decided to try out the beta version of IE7, I figured I'd uninstall it and go back to IE6 in a week or so. I'd tried FF's tabbed interface and didn't like it. FF is much less forgiving to websites that don't manage code well. Pages loaded slower, it didn't handle my 3rd party download manager and if an image was broken, it just didn't show. I prefer the red x so I know something isn't right.

It took a few days to get used to IE7. It tried to give us some of the features of FF, like tabbed browsing, only did a better job of it. I love it now and hate when I have to use another browser to do something on the Net. IE7 isn't perfect by any means, but it has been the browser I have stuck with since 1993. Many die-hard FF fans will spout all the great features and reliability and better security of that product, but I am not so sure it's a love affair with FF or a deep seated animosity toward Microsoft.

As a webmaster and developer, I have to use other browsers so I know the pages I code look very close in all cases. I can't live without FF, Netscape and Opera. If I had a Mac, I'd be using it to check my code in Safari. But when it comes to every day surfing and spending time on forums and other sites, I use IE7.

[/soapbox]

I still have windows 98, a '73 Chevy stepside and a '77 Chevy van............ and none of it's changing anytime soon unless my $2 Powerball ticket does good tomorrow night.
I don't think IE7 works with W98se.
I hate the newest anything. I hate 'state of the art' personal gadgets, I will never own an Ipod, have no use for a tivo, I bough a cheap DVD player a year ago and have watched 3 movies on it.
I need stuff that gets me by, and no more.
I might some day buy a cell phone if it doesn't have a 2 year contract, a camera, GPS navigation, video dowload and internet capabilities, a 4 hp trolling motor and a Presto Hotdogger built into it.
In 5 years with my system, I have never had a virus and my freebee virus protection and firewalls do what they are supposed to. My 4 GB of computer hd space is just barely over 1/2 used up if that says anything.
The only benefit of a faster computer would be better video viewing and faster page loading. I am 'Lo' maintenance.

I think you just need a new hamster..... they get worn worn out trying to turn that wheel all day long. Or...... you could try using two hamsters.... as long as they don't run in opposite directions. Sorta like adding more RAM, but in your case it would be HAM.

The problem is getting less and less. The past three days I have not gotten the pop up warning....................... Maybe my computer is 'learning' to outsmart TFP's newest threat to me.

Try interest penalties and a late fee......... that would do it fer sure.

Pages are still loading fine, so I guess I am cured of whatever it was.
