Script on this page

Since the new 'home', I almost always get a pop up warning:

Script on this page may be busy or may have stopped.
Stop script / Continue

It happens almost every time I try to load a page here. It happens when the page is 98% loaded up.

Re: Script on this page

Could be any number of things, Lo Down. It always helps to tell what program you are using when you have a problem.

I use IE7 and get no errors. I just used FF 2.0.0.6 and get no JavaScript errors and one "unknown property 'filter'. Declaration dropped." warning in reference to how it handles a style sheet issue - it's a common problem that doesn't effect how the site works.

When I open Netscape 8.1, it seems to have a problem completely loading the page and all its code. The graphics and everything looks like it's completely loaded, but there is actually some JavaScript at the very end of the coded page that has to do with the date/time and the tasks that our site runs while you surf it and the new add-on I installed the other day for the link displays. That isn't a problem with TheFloorPro.com, but a problem with Netscape.

Finally, I opened Opera 9.23 and checked the error console for this page and got 2 errors and a warning in deciphering the CSS (cascading style sheet), which doesn't effect its rendering of the page.

So, tell us what browser you are using and where you see this error reported. The exact error message would also help. I suspect you are using Netscape and the error is referring to the JavaScript at the end of the coded page.

Re: Script on this page

I am using Firefox........ I think version 1. 5. 0. 4. That's what shows up n the add/remove programs page.
The error says:

Warning unresposive script.
A script on this page may be busy, or it has stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Stop script now / Continue

When I click 'continue', the page always completes............. if the warning didn't always pop up, the page would finish loading about a second later.

It kinda feels like CProader is rowing me 1/2 mile across a lake, then when we get one foot from shore, he drops anchor and asks me "do ya think we can make it."

Ouch !! Don't click that link if yer runnin IE7. As soon as I came off that link, I was shot over to the IE website by my browser and it reminded me I was using IE7. Then I spent the next hour pingin my dang IP and kept gettin the wrong IP. Shut it down and after about 30 minutes turned it back on and now everything is ok. Anybody else, or was that a setup fer ol CP.

The latest update P'd me off......... Firefox did auto updates weather you wanted em or not. Last update had spell check............ and it didn't know half the words I do. It also ran slow on my computer...... I typed 4 or 5 letters, and the script showing up as I typed, actually had to catch up to me. It seemed to be as if the spell check was analyzing as I typed............ and it was slower that me. NOTHING is slower than me.

I got PO'd and I went to add/ remove programs and deleted Firefox with the intent to go back to using IE.
I found I liked Firefoxe's pop up blocker and general format............. so I went to start>find and typed in Firefox. I saw the older version and reinstalled it. I was happy once again.
I discovered the check box for "auto updates"............... and UNCHECKED it. Once again, I was happy, but now I get these warnings, but only on this site as far as I can tell.

I need to find the 'next to the last' update that Firefox made, and install it if that's possible. It was working fine then. I think it's a 1.8........... something er other.

Re: Script on this page

Updates aren't like in the olden days, Lo Down. Used to be, an update was just for new features or to fix a bug or something. These days, updates, especially for browsers, fix security leaks. If you don't update, you leave yourself open to all kinds of security threats.

Neither FF or IE's popup blocker is nearly as good as the one that comes with the Google Toolbar. IESpell is a much better spell checker than any browser's own spell checker. IE manages tabbed browsing better and I think it renders text much better than FF, especially with Clear Type on.

When I first decided to try out the beta version of IE7, I figured I'd uninstall it and go back to IE6 in a week or so. I'd tried FF's tabbed interface and didn't like it. FF is much less forgiving to websites that don't manage code well. Pages loaded slower, it didn't handle my 3rd party download manager and if an image was broken, it just didn't show. I prefer the red x so I know something isn't right.

It took a few days to get used to IE7. It tried to give us some of the features of FF, like tabbed browsing, only did a better job of it. I love it now and hate when I have to use another browser to do something on the Net. IE7 isn't perfect by any means, but it has been the browser I have stuck with since 1993. Many die-hard FF fans will spout all the great features and reliability and better security of that product, but I am not so sure it's a love affair with FF or a deep seated animosity toward Microsoft.

As a webmaster and developer, I have to use other browsers so I know the pages I code look very close in all cases. I can't live without FF, Netscape and Opera. If I had a Mac, I'd be using it to check my code in Safari. But when it comes to every day surfing and spending time on forums and other sites, I use IE7.
