Advertising at TFP
Since almost from the beginnings of The Floor Pro Community (May 2006), the advertisements you have seen here have been of only 3 types: - Google Adsense ads located in the top banner of all public pages of the forum (none in the pro forums) and between posts in all forums accessible to the general membership and visitors. Income generated: average $40.00 per month.
- ShoppingAds affiliate banners between posts in tool oriented forums and through links to items on eBay. Income generated: less than 60.00 since it started about a year ago.
- Banners in the footer area from assorted companies that either have, or I would like to have donate prizes for our contests. Income generated: zero, but we have had some nice prizes to give away.
There has also been some generous donations from members that has helped me a lot. Those members have a badge. Generous to me is any amount. I have received donations of from 5.00 to 200.00 and they are all very much appreciated.
I have not wanted to run paid advertising other than the above. Unfortunately, my own economic situation is so bad that I can't continue to do it that way. I have decided to join an affiliate program that I hope will make a difference in my income. The first banner ad is from Shag Tools:
The benefit to me is a 2% commission on sales from anyone who buys tools from them by clicking the banner (there are also text links like above too). Even if you don't buy when you click the ad, if you go back within 30 days and buy, I still get a commission. It's not much, but I hope it will improve in time. The average sale there is about 200.00. My commission would be about 4.00.
I will do my best to keep ads to a reasonable limit. You will see ads on pages you haven't seen them on before, but I hope these ads will not deter you from enjoying the benefits of the site. Some ads will be animated, but I don't like irritating ads any more than the next guy, so you won't see ads that flutter, undulate and flash and practic'ly throw you into a seizure. Many of the new ads will just take the place of ads we already have, so you shouldn't see a difference in them.
My goal is not to get rich on advertisements at TFP. It is merely to make sure my server, software and other website related expenses are paid for. Some day this site will be inherited by one or a group of you. I don't want the bequeath to include costs you are not able or willing to pay. The managers of this site may have to hire someone to do some of the website development work - those guys charge for their work like you charge for yours.
I wanted everyone to know what's up. No hidden agenda. If you have any questions or comments, please post them here or send me a PM or an email message.
Thank you,
Jim

Jim, just do whatever you need to do! Ads shouldn't bother anyone, we see them everywhere.

Re: Advertising at TFP
I chose Shag Tools because of the good reviews some of you and our other members have given them. However, I will only receive a commission if you click the banner or links to them from here at TFP.
Thanks,
Jim

I'm confident there is not a single member on here who expects you to single handedly foot the bill. Imo you have waited far too long to bring in some needed income. Carry on with it.

Jim, maybe you can help me and also urself,,,,, being from australia things here are very expensive. i wrote an email to shag tools but got no reply. wanted to buy and asked if they shipped to oz and how much. know that would depend on weight but the prices you guys pay over there is almost half what i pay here, mini stretcher for eg. runs me $1000 plus. i bought one when i was in washington state and dragged it home and saved a bundle(lots of questions thru customs) i love tools just askin for assistance since i can't get any from them. cheers.

Re: Advertising at TFP
I'll do what I can. Send me an email with specifics and I'll see what I can do. I'm on my way to bed now (jeez, it's after 5am), but I can call them when I get up in about 6 or 7 hours. Click my name or my avatar and send me an email (or a PM is okay too).

Jim, another thing comes to mind... if you can also get a 'list' a flier? of prices detailing all with shipping obviously 'here or there give or take with in 7 days etc., might work, as i say no body buys unless they have to here. a couple of suppliers here.....pr floors mjsturgess gibbons group. PR Floors - Home tryingn to find others.

Strip you a neighbor of mine? What part of Aussie do you hide in? I have had lots of trouble when we go to Surfaces they scan your card and say we will send you stuff then their computer deletes it. I was trying to get a DVD from a Travel Agent in the States about going to Alaska Didn't even get a reply but I bet them I got Nick to email them and DVD arrived soon after. I reckon they don't like our money and our banks still have money
