What happened to the Google Map?

Some of you will be disappointed to discover that the Google Map is gone. I am very sorry. The map was designed for an earlier version of our forum software. There have been a couple of updates to it, but the software developer has not kept up with the forum software. I just found out today that there is a flaw in the version we were using that can allow a malicious attack to the server we are on. It apparently has been there for a while and we are very lucky that it hasn't been exploited.

There is a version of the map that a few people have got to work on this version of the forum software, but it requires a lot of modifications. It just doesn't seem worthwhile because there is a newer version of the forum software that will be released very soon and it will also make the map software vulnerable to problems. The developer is no longer working on the product and his website is off-line now.

My apologies to those of you who enjoyed the feature. It was used by less than 100 members (the count was 63, but the counter broke on the last upgrade of the forum). I had thought about dropping the feature a couple months ago, but a few members convinced me it was a valuable feature. I'm sorry to disappoint those of you who wanted that feature.

The security of our website and the server it is on is my highest priority. But my second most concern is the enjoyment and value our members get from your websites. As soon as a similar map feature is developed and is secure, I will install it. Until then, I hope you will continue to find TFP to be one of the best flooring forums on the internet.

CP, you mean you did not use it when filing your flight plan?

BTW my grandson called this evening from Okinawa and he has to work the radar (he is air traffic control) Christmas eve, and no one has even filed a flight plan. Will be a long 12 hours.

T How am I going to find where all you guys live? My road map of NZ does not show the States and my Navman says to go to the nearset road when I get to the edge of NZ
