New posts

Now I really think there's something wrong. When I first signed on this evening, there were 41 new posts. I immediately went to the thread I started this morning and there were eight new posts. I replied to them, hit the 'new posts' again, and it went down to six new posts.

I thought I had seen this before, but figured I must have missed something. Then a few minutes ago I did the same thing but your reply at the end of that same thread did not even appear in the 'new posts'.

Am I missing something?

Re: New posts

Hmmm, not sure I know what you mean. New posts refers to posts you have not read before. In the same list might be old posts that you didn't read the last time you were here. If there are, for instance, 6 new posts, but only 2 topics are visible in the list, that's because there are maybe 4 of the new posts in one topic and 2 in the other - something like that. It does confuse some people.

I have had the system tell me that there was 1 or 2 new posts and I'd get the No new messages thing when I clicked New Posts. I think that happens occasionally when I have moved a thread or a post. I fix it by clicking the Mark Forums Read (when I am sure that I have read everything) at the bottom of the forum home page.

If I misunderstand what you are saying, let me know.

Jim

Re: New posts

No, Jim this is different.

I pull up the forum home page, it shows 41 new posts. I click on new posts and it brings up all the new ones with the unread ones below it separately. I immediately clicked on the thread I started this morning about one of our members and there were eight posts since I started the thread. I added a reply, clicked on new posts again, the page loads and shows there are only six new posts, although I had only read the eight from that first thread.

Later this evening, while I was looking at new posts again, your reply in that same thread did not show up as a new post, but when I go to the forum list, I see that you have replied to that thread again.

Maybe it was just a fluke.

Re: New posts

Unless I log out, Firefox brings up the page at the time I last visited it. When I refresh the page, the new post count changes. Doesn't sound like this is your problem, but I threw it out there anyway. What browser do you use, and do you log out each time you leave the Floor Pro?

Do you use the icons on the forum home page as a fall-back? That's what I do. Those will not turn into these unless there really are no unread posts.

And flukes do happen. There is another update to the forum software that has fixed some bugs - I'm not aware of what all the bugs are - but it'll be a while before I can do the update. As you know, I am behind on more important things.

I knew about that one, I do the same thing. Sometimes after I've cleared all the new posts, (shows 0 New posts), I go to another website, come back, still shows 0 New Posts. I click on it anyway and there are three or four or however many new posts since I left. That wasn't the problem.

It's no big deal. Not like I was looking forward to go through 41 new posts anyway.

I've got a head cold right nowheck it might have even been 14 posts and I thought it was 41.
