Server Move Scheduled for Oct. 10
I have secured a new server that promises to be faster than the one we are on currently. I have been working on it today and settled all the pressing issues to smooth the way to a quick and painless move. Of course, I am not gullible enough to think it will go without a hitch, as the server company claims, so do expect some connection issues for up to 72 hours after the move.
The move will be conducted sometime Saturday, October 10, 2009. I can't pinpoint a time, but I hope it will be either early that morning, or very late that night, which are both our slowest times on the site. I will send out an email to all members when the move has been completed, so you will know what is going on, if you have trouble connecting.
Best R'gards,
Jim

Re: Server Move Scheduled for Oct. 10
I can't believe this server got this bad that fast. Of coarse i don't understand confuser stuff anyway. Can't wait for the change I'm tired of it taking 5 minutes to read a post. And thats just to get to it. I actually read quite fast, maybe thats why I don't understand.

The switch is scheduled for midnight - just about 6 hours from now. Looks like I will have an all-nighter on my hands tonight. I should take a nap now while I can.

Re: Server Move Scheduled for Oct. 10
I apologize for the long delay in getting the site back up and running. Eleven hours for me and I know it will take longer for others because of a problem with browsers that hold onto the data and images from prior visits - this is called the cache.
I had to empty all my cached files for all my browsers to be able to access the site on the new server. I kept being able to access the site, but it was still showing the forum was closed when it wasn't.
Please let your friends know that the best way to be able to access TFP if they are still seeing a closed page is to go to the browser options and empty all saved files and cookies - and don't leave a setting checked that will save the data from your favorite sites or it won't work.
Unfortunately, it means you will have to log back into all the sites you are a member of and I am sorry for the extra hassle and work you have to do, but that may be the only way for some members to get back in on our new server.
And if you are reading this, you do NOT have to do that because you are seeing this on the new server already. This message is for you to pass along to your friends and associates that are still having trouble and can only see the "Forum Closed" message. I did add my email address to that message before the server change, so I hope some people having trouble will email me.
Anyway, the server move is done. All that's left is to do some tweaks to the settings and see if I can get the most power out of this thing that I can. I hope the pages already load faster for you.
Best R'gards,
Jim
PS: I really need to get a couple hours sleep, so I won't see your emails or messages here for a little while.

Re: Server Move Scheduled for Oct. 10
I am having all kinds of problems. My computer will not stay logged into the new server. I am using the neighbor's computer now and still trying to figure out why my machine will not stay on this new server.
According to a couple of emails I have received, I am not the only one having this problem. It's really pissing me off.
