Going from the home page here, to a forum, most load up slow because my compurer is slow. Going to any one of the DIY forums, the forum titles always load up in about 6 seconds... not a problem... I can deal with that. In the Pro forums, some of the Forum titles take about 55 seconds. The worst seem to be the Broadloom, vinyl, and Inspection forums................ but then once in a while they load up faster like the others do. Usually, this forum loads up OK...... but this time IT took 55 seconds or so.
I do not recall the Forum topics taking so long to load up in the first two days here.......... Has anything changed? This has nothing to do with the different dial up speeds I get when I crank up the modem...... This happens no matter which dial up speed I have.
I tried clicking off the view avitars checkbox in the edit area, and setting the reply option to it's simplest form..... no difference. It also has nothing to do with how many photos or topics a particular forum has........ I am used to the slow loading of photos, so that's not it.......... I just take a nap while they load.
The problem is not consistant either......... sometimes a Forum topic will load up quick, and a few minutes later if I skip back to it, it takes about 55 seconds.

I believe what you are experiencing is the server load. If a lot of people are online it might take longer than when there are only a few people. I have a pretty good broadband connection and only notice a slowness when my service provider has an overload or problem. Then all the sites I visit are slow not just a couple. Let me know how it works for you are different times of the day and when different numbers of people are online.

We are on a shared server which should be OK until we grow quite a bit bigger. We will grow with the demand. If it appears we may become a success (after several months at least) I may opt for a dedicated server rather than to keep moving to servers we keep growing out of.

It may not mean much to most but we have steadily increased significantly our page hits and unique visitors each day since opening. It can't help but effect the speed of the server but it shouldn't be very noticeable until we have a lot more members and visitors. But the pages you mention are the most heavily trafficked. Dialup users will notice a bigger lag than broadband though. I'm sorry.

Strangely, I've not experienced any problems and I've got a raging 28.8 connection - fastest we can get in these parts (the sticks.)

Typically, the seasons move faster than any connection I can get, but for some reason this board loads rather briskly. Perhaps if I clear my cashe it will be different - I won't dare do that.

My computer is slower than yours Lea. 96 RAM is like going 67 mph in the quarter mile with a 21.06 et. and a 4.57 second 60 ft time. And I can't even turn the tires in the water box.

Don't think it makes much difference Admin, but I will log on at 2:00am and see how it running. I don't have problems with any other sites.
Still think you need a name....... SGT Pepper sound good?

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH -
I have dial-up,
well, mines more like 'rotary-dial-up'.
This sucker (my computer) is so slow I can't even believe it. HOWEVER, for some reason this board loads faster than all my other destinations and there's a lot to load here compared to some of the others. Just so happens that when I started here I had also changed to Firefox (from IE) at the same time, maybe that has something to do with it. It does seem everything loads somewhat faster than it used to overall. Hell I just thought I was using a better grade of kerosene for fuel lately.
