Measuring with a laser.
Just got a Hilti PD30 today. Pretty cool. Used it on several estimates today, and really like it. I admit, it will take a while to get to where I totally trust it. Anyone else using on day to day? What brand do you use?

Re: Measuring with a laser.
I have four of them Sk .. Wouldn't leave home without them .. I still stick a 2' framing square in corner to make sure I'm getting a true right angle .. Can you post a picture of yours ? the one i have for distance is not all that accurate ..

Re: Measuring with a laser.
I have Leica/Disto. I got it through Laser Square about 4 years ago. At the tail end of it has a piece that swivels out to make it square and stable when using it. They now have them that are computer compatible to download your info.
I have used mine up to 250 ft with no problems.
In most cases it is more accurate than a tape measure cause at a wall line you have to bend the tape. Also I used to buy a tape amonth at least. I think I've only bought 2 tape measures in 4 years and that was cause I had a big foot or the end snapped off.
If going wall to wall don't forget to add in your doorways.

Re: Measuring with a laser.
Well at the time i bought mine there were only 2 models and it was the cheaper model and it is a Lieca model. Has Lieca been bought by Hilti? Anyway mine is susposed to be accurate to 1/8" in 500 ft. It is dead nuts on anything I've measured. The Hd models and Sears ones are not anywhere near as accurate. Mine I can take more than one measure and keep adding it into or subtracting from the pile. Plus it does a whole host of other things that I never figured out like figuring roof pitch that sort of thing.
I also have the laser framing square, which is great for cutting carpet square or even finding a spot on the ceiling from the floor for like a light fixture that sort of thing. It shoots a beam both ways.
The SL-24 is great if you do tile. It will set you up for straight line or a 45 if needed.
The 2 tools I have I don't know how I got along without them before.

Re: Measuring with a laser.
The Hilti PD30 is for estimating. It calculates sq. footage in seconds, or just length and width. I used it today to measure for base. It has an add/subtract button to add walls, or subtract doorways. I also found it excellent for measuring window coverings. I can get the numbers fast, without having to put down the tape, or putting on my glasses, and then taking them off. I LOVE THIS TOOL!
