What keeps the seller of an item, from having a few of his cronie's from bidding on the item to drive up the selling price? Seems like it would be an easy thing to do, to me.

That's why i never bid on something until the last few minutes. And I also never bid on something with a reserve ... wasting my time.

Good plan, Jerry. If you could have keep track of the time remaining in the auction, and then know how long it would take to get your bid "posted", that seems like it would help. But, what is several different bidders all employed the same strategy.
Seems like buying an item on Ebay is an art in itself...

Key...

Have two browser windows open. One reloading, updating the auction, every second, and one ready to send your bid. Works like a charm. I have out bid several on archery equipment, do just that.

That's what I do, two or more browser windows open.

If I have any spare time and am browsing eBay for something. I will do a search, then refine the search down to items closing soonest. I have accidentally stumbled on some pretty good deals because the time was almost up.

Re: turbo tools groover!!!!

There is no reason to monitor your bids if you know what the maximum you will pay is. You use the ebay automatic bidding process and set your top bid price. The system will automatically place the minimum amount bid to beat the last bid until it reaches your maximum. If no one beats your bid, you could get the item for considerably less than your predetermined maximum. There's no way you can place a bid faster than the automated system and you don't have to worry about a connection that might drop or stall. You don't have to sit at your computer when you could be off doing something else. You can track your open bidding items and manage your won or sold items for feedback (giving and getting feedback is important) at your own ebay pages: http://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbay

Read about automatic bidding and other ebay facts here: eBay's Automatic Bidding System (Proxy Bidding)

Re: turbo tools groover!!!!

The best way to grab something is for their not to any bids at all on a no-reserve auction with the time running out. Placing any bid attracts more bidders for some reason.... some bidders are brain-dead and bid 10 times in a row instead of the way you suggested.

The best deals I have gotten have all been by chance , and not too many of those either.
