What a great idea, stretch wrap. I've heard people using duct tape but, that can be messy to remove. Barry I'm talkin about the rust from condensation, during the winter months.

Re: Roller matiniance
I usually clean rust off with mineral spirits. I also carry it into the job from my truck. We had a big installation years ago and I had a new helper. I told him that the roller could not touch anything except the new flooring. That poor kid carried a hundred pound roller a long way. Held it in the elevator for several floors. I only did that to him once though. He had a good sense of humor about it.

Re: Roller maintenance
i have 3 rollers 35# 75# 100# (too wimpy for 150)
never had any rust.
the rare squeak on occasion.
All my helpers learned real fast not to roll my rollers on any thing but NEW floors.

Re: Roller maintenance
Mineral spirits and blue paper shop towels. Occasional light sanding with sand paper. I wonder if car wax would help with prevention?

Re: Roller maintenance
For the squeek I spray the lube I use for my carvers in the axel area. You can't hear a thing.
I had a 150 lber that we got out of the van by giving it a shove. It ended up I used it to roll my lawn. I had a friend who needed one for a carpet job in South Dakota and shipped it to him.

Re: Roller maintenance
I use sandpaper with a little air and wipe down with a rag lightly coated with WD-40. Then wipe clean with a dry clean cloth. For squeaks, I found that spray silicone lubricant works great. Just a little dab lasts a long time. Once a year I take it apart and clean it thoroughly and lightly lube it. Gets all the crud out.
I'm still carrying it but I think I'm going to set up like Nick. That makes lots of sense as you get older.

Re: Roller maintenance
yeah I gotta stop draginging it through the mud and snow , and it will never get dirty just kiddin'. The other day I did a glue down light colored carpet and cleaned the roller off several times. The more it sweat the more brown stuff came off of it. I 'm going to try the stretch wrap trick next time.

Lay out a sheet of heavy plastic.
................. pour onto it, one quart of that liquid rubber stuff they make for dipping/coating tool handles.
..................push the roller through it, one full revolution so it's evenly coated.
................. now gently lift the roller and hold it till the rubber cures.
................. keep holding,
................. I said keep holding ya old wimp! ... and don't set it down till it's dry.
I dub it the HerniaDownLoNow Rollercoating Sytem.
(This ones all mine Jerry if I get a box of bananna peels, Doritos bags, and stale bread in the mail! )
