Topic: Broken Stuff...
I was doing a job this past couple of days, with another hardwood guy, and his helper. Drives 14' diesel box van, and it is loaded with the every tool and then some. He has three undercut saw, cause he hates to change the blades to go from stone to wood.
I was looking at my stuff, which is pretty well used, and starting making a mental list of the little nicks and dings some of my stuff has. I'm gonna try and make a concerted effort to fix this stuff. Anybody else have this problem?
Festool Saw- depth stop cracked, have to use a screwdriver to make adjustments
BostichMK3- The clip on the magazine top is broken, and it shoots blamks on occasion
compressor- Air gauge is kaput
Couple tools with some sorry loooking cords
Undercut saw- switch is kind of cranky
Nothing really serious, just nuisance stuff. Projects for a rainy day.

I try to get my broken tools back to the distributor for warranty repairs. Even when a tool is out of warranty, they will usually take care of some issues. I have a jamb saw that had a faulty switch. Out of warranty, but the saw had switch issues that the manufacturer knew about and it got fixed for free anyway.
I have a table saw (Bosch) that has a real problem getting the blade up to the proper height. It goes down real easy, just not up without a struggle. I dropped it off at a authorized Bosch tool repair shop in Reno and after 2 months and many phone calls and stops at the shop when I was in town, they gave the saw back to me unrepaired. So now I have a $600.00 table saw that is a great saw as long as the blade is up where I need it, but a waste of time and money if it's not (I swear, it takes about 15 minutes to get the blade where I want it).
I have a couple of heat guns that have been fixed a couple times each, but now just take up room on the shelf. I got a couple of those big DuoFast pad staplers that are missing a part or jam too often. I replaced them with lighter weight and handier slap tackers. I have a few scrapers with broken clamp bars or bent handles. I have an old Makita hypoid gear saw that still works, but my smaller Porter Cable is much easier to use and can be hoooked up to a vacuum. I must have 4 cordless drills whose batteries are more expensive than a new drill (and the old batteries won't take a charge any more).
I should have a yard sale or just throw the damn things away. My tool shed might not be so crowded if I got rid of the tools I haven't used in over a year.

This guy that I have been working with the last few days, (and to whom I referred i the above post) was on vacation up in Oregon, when the Big Bosch truck rolled up for a truckload sale. He bought a new Bosch Table saw, sure is purty. He had a DeWalt, which is a really nice saw, with one of, if not the nicest fence's on any 10"work site saw.
Anyway, he offered to sell me the DeWalt pretty cheap, but I already have 2 table saws. This was yesterday, and today, when we started out to finish up the job we'd been installing, the first time he tried to start the Dewalt, it locked up. Felt like a bearing went. Good timing on his part, and lucky for me I didn't need a saw.
