shoes

Not sure if this is thr right forum for this.
"T" ?
Of all the articles of clothing I consistently wear out rapidly shoes seem to be the worst. Do any of you have a brand/style that last? I have tried 'name brands', the bargain brands, and alot in between.

Any suggestions? tennies are my preference

Re: shoes

I wear the Costco kirkland brand leather tennis shoes $15 a pair. Get 2 to 3 months and get a new pair. I don't get any more wear out of a shoe that costs way more. Plus they are white and not too much tread on the bottom for dirt.

Re: shoes

I have been wearing ReeBok hightop tennis shoes for years. The toes wear out before anything else.

Re: shoes

Comfort trumps durability.

We have specific 'indoor' shoes. When we arrive on site, the indoor work shoes go on. When we depart the site, the shoes come off and we wear what ever we were wearing when we arrived.

Ask any shoe professional and they will tell you, the way to receive maximum life and performance from any pair of shoes is not to wear the same pair everyday. Shoes perform better if given the opportunity to rest, relax and breath.

Over the years, whenever I find a pair of shoes I like particularly well, I purchase duplicate or multiple pairs and rotate their use. This may sound odd, and I must confess my motivation is not performance oriented. I really dislike the whole shoe shopping experience and being able to walk into the shoes store and say 'give me two pairs exactly like the ones I bought last week is satisfying. Especially knowing I won't be back for a year or more.

There are two reasons why people do anything. One is the reason that sounds good and makes sense, the other is the real reason. Fo me, rotating shoe use to extend and enhance performance is the reason that sounds good and makes sense. But the real reason is, I despise the entire shoe shopping experience.

Either way, to extend the life of a shoe, buy two pair, rotate their use and wear them only while on site. But don't take my word for it, seek the advice of a competent trained professional and ask for scientific proof.

Just my two cents,

Dobby

PS: The other benefit of having specific 'work' shoes is it keeps the glue off our 'good' shoes and our spouses from asking us if we are really planning on wearing those shoes to where ever it is we are going that they are expecting us to look cleaner than we are. You know what I mean.

Re: shoes

I agree 100% with Dobby and add to that a pair of thick white cotton socks each day just adds to the comfort. It is amazing how good your feet feel when you change the shoes and sweaty socks at the end of the work day.

Take good care of your wheels they are the only set you will get.

Re: shoes

I thought I was the only one that bought 4-5 pairs of shoes at a time. Opps! I mean my wife buys me 4-5 pairs at a time. I am hard on shoes being as heavy as I am. Plus I have bad feet to begin with. But I don't rotate either.
I always hear "Are you really going to wear that out in public? You look like a bum!"
Ya I know what you mean.
Nikes for me. They are the only ones that come in wide sizes. I got to have room. Diabetic.

Re: shoes

Reebok's for me too.(low tops) Though, as of a couple years ago, in my area anyway, they no longer have the ones I use to buy that have a very simple sole pattern that doesn't collect and shed dirt/mud as bad as the new ones do, which can be a real pain. I usually buy two pair at a time when they're on sale and they'll last me a year. Like Jerry mentioned, the toes go first, then they're fishin shoes.

I'll have to try the shoe rotation Dobby. Makes good sense.

Re: shoes

It depends what I'm doing that day, for my choice of footwear.

I keep a pair of tennis shoes in the truck, for carpet, but if I'm doing floor prep or wood/laminate, I have a several pairs of hiking style boots, made by Stone Creek. My last pair I got 2 years out of them, before the leather on the toe wore out.

When I did a lot more carpet then I do now, I always had Reebok, high tops in the truck. Street shoes never see carpet.

Re: shoes

Here in the Ozarks we don't wear shoes.
Actually on new construction, I wear boots until everything is unloaded and then switch to shoes to work in. Any good, comfortable, athletic shoe will work fine. The man who taught me this trade wore moccasins.

Re: shoes

I've always considered shoes a business expense. Typically I'll find something comfortable and stick with it until I cant find them anymore. I've tried bargain shoes and they just mess my feet up.

I usually buy at least 2 pair at a time. One to keep halfway nice, and one to work in. When I wear out the work shoes I rotate in the other pair.

Re: shoes

In the last couple of years, I have started buying $15 runners one size larger and loosely tied. It was more comfortable on my feet and I think there was less stress on the runners. They last me close to a year now. The bonus part, was if I needed to remove my shoes, I could slip them off easily.

I bet Dobbys shoes last twice as long as one pair.

Re: shoes

they say that rotating 2 pairs, will make them outlast 3 pairs worn singularly. I rotate shoes, and the one thing I've found that extends life, is when they are sueded. I also do them a bit larger, seems to help my toes.
