Re: Kool Glide Utility Tape
Use it to bond a starter row when installing hardwood or laminted plank floors instead of face nailing. It is great if you do wood repairs when you cut out a plank use the tape to secure your replacement piece. Basically anytime you need to adhere a solid item to a solid item. It will even bond ceramic tile, not that you would like to make a habit of it.

OK, good for wood, good for laminate...
What are the applications for a carpet installer?

Re: Kool Glide Utility Tape
A friend of mine just did a total wrap circular staircase and used it to make the seam on the underside of the step and also to stop the bellying of the carpet later.

Re: Kool Glide Utility Tape
I have an idea for the utility tape that I wanted to run by both the inspectors and super carpet gurus out there....
The most peaking I get on a job is usually the extra wide doorway or double doors leading from the hall to the master bedroom. I always install the hall first and stay off at the doorways. When I stretch the master, It almost always peaks at the master door way more than anywhere else.
What about stapling the pad real good at the master door way and using utility tape there instead of regular Kool Glide tape?
What problems could occur and what would that do to the manufactures warranty?

How 'bout a double-stick type deal in the doorway? Glue the pad to the floor, the carpet to the pad - of course, somewhere in there you gotta do the seam, but the Kool Glide would make that easier too.

Re: Kool Glide Utility Tape
I offerred this idea as a solution to a problem here several months ago and I was called an idiot, 5 posts later someone else suggested the same solution and they were a hero.
The way I see it, if a solution works it works, is a manufacturer going to say one way is better than another if it is not in the specs or a manual? No, if it fails it fails, is Kool Glide going to eat the job?

Re: Kool Glide Utility Tape
Hey, I noticed today that I seem to have 2 different kinds of utility tape.
1 has the sticky side with hot melt on the other side but no scrim.
The other has the sticky side with the scrim.
The Kool Glide side does not mention that there are two varieties of utility tape or what each one does.
Does anyone here know what the applications for each one is?

Re: Kool Glide Utility Tape
The one with the scrim is for double glue down. Utility tape has no scrim.
