duo-fast stapler

I need a slide spring for a duo-fast enc 5418 stapler. I had the stapler rebuilt several years ago and never used it. When I got it out of the box, the spring that pushes the staples was gone. Duo-fast doesn't offer parts on their web site.

If you do not have any luck call Southland Flooring Supplies in either Kansas City 913-432-0512 or St Louis 314-993-8600.

Re: duo-fast stapler

Hey Rusty,

If you still need the spring give me a call (1-800-552-4970) and I'll send it to you. I've got 5 or 6 springs here at the shop. It's free, I can just drop it in the mail to you. Just need an address. If you want to do a private reply to me with the info I'll get her right out.

Just an FYI, the little boogers are kind of a pain to install. I use a turning tool to get it over finger that holds the loop end on the slider cause you can't get your hand down in their right. Works pretty good. We're a distributor for Duo-fast.

Chuck

Re: duo-fast stapler

If I can do it anyone can. Call me if you get stuck and I can talk you through it.

Here's how I do it...

1) Take the 2 cap head screws that hold rear bracket about half way out and slide the silver staple holding part of the base all the way out of the tool.
--Careful the pusher that slides the staples forward will probably fall out.

2) Look at the rear of the silver base assembly you just took out of the tool and you'll see a little "finger" projection down inside the rear part of the silver base -- slide a loop end of the spring over the little finger projection.

3) Push the spring under the pully at the front of the silver base and pull (stretch it out to get a good hold on it. Keep tension on the spring and wrap up and over top of the pully.

4) Take the staple pusher -black metal piece that fell out when you took the base apart and orient it so the little finger projection is towards the rear of the silver base assembly.

5) Keeping tension on the spring, put the free loop over the finger projection on the pusher. It's going want to pull the pusher forward and out the end of the base assembly so keep a little tension on the pusher and spring with your thumb.

6)While maintaining the tension slide the silver base assembly back into the tool once you've got it started in so the pusher can't rise off it's rail and flip out, close the base assembly and tighten down the 2 screws you loosened in step one.

7)Smile and have a beer, maybe even watch the Colts play some ball your a Duo-fast repair man now.

Hope this helps. Keep in mind the newer tackers have a silver base. If yours is older it may have a black base but still the same procedure.

Chuck

P.S. It's going out in the A.M. my mail picked up already.

Re: duo-fast stapler

No problem, thanks for all the good information and help you give everyone on the board including me. I may not post a ton, but I do read a lot of the threads when I can and I always appreciate flooring mechanics who try and help each other learn and grow in a positive way. Many mechanics have taught me a lot over the years as a sales person. The knowledge and experience that they share is invaluable to me and I hope that in turn I can use what I've learned to sell products that are right for the job and that they like to install.

So, helping you in the long run helps me, and we all do better.

Thanks and you're welcome.

Chuck
