Re: one step trimmer

I saw that in the latest FCI magazine. A long time ago, I used to use a star roller on carpet seams - boy did I hear about that. Star rollers damage carpet. Now they got 2 of 'em on a trimmer.

I never thought the original trimmer was so bad they needed a re-design. You'd think, if the carpet was stretched properly, or the set wall was set properly, you wouldn't need any kind of rollers, let alone dual star rollers, to get your carpet on the pins. What does that say about carpet backings? What does it say about the expected quality of installer?

Re: one step trimmer

In a toolbox somewhere, I have one of those old Crain tucking trimmers. It worked only on builder's grade, and I can't see this being any better.

Re: one step trimmer

I got one at the CFI conv. Some of the things I have ran into with it. First it is a pain to get the carpet started because of the rollers ( it takes some practice ) The wheel that is used to tuck the carpet could be a little bigger so it tucks the carpet all the way into the gully ( you have to tilt it forward to get the wheel to tuck it all ) If the base is all the way to the floor it is hard to tuck with thick carpet. Now for some of the good points. I does cut nice, the wheels do lock it nice on the strip.

so for my advice if you do lots of jobs with raised base and base grade carpet it will save you a step.

Re: one step trimmer

Read my above post. I only use it for base grade carpet with raised base.

Re: one step trimmer

And it really doesn't do a good job on that.
