Binding stapler problems

On my funky shaped rug, I started binding with the stapler on a small rug. I have three smaller rugs to do with one color and I'm waiting on the other color to arrive.
So I used the stapler today and it don't work very well. 3 or 4 out of 5 staples go in correctly. The ones that miss, either go in one side and wad up, or sometimes neither side goes through correctly.
I am using a borrowed Roberts stapler, model 10-113.
it's made by Isaberg AB.
I am using Crain 5/16" staples. The box says #148
I had a full box of the Crain staples, and they seem to fit the same as the Roberts.

I have a Bostich PS-6 stapler, but can't find staples for it. It shoots a 3/8" wide staple. This stapler looks more rugged and I'm wondering if the staples it uses are a larger wire size.

Can you direct me to a fix............ I don't want to order a box of Roberts staples only to discover they don't work any different that the Crain ones.

What kind of stapler works best? What have you guys used? It's less than 120 feet of binding........ I suppose I could hand sew the binding.

3 or 4 out of 5 go in correctly. Yes that was the case for me also. Very frustrating I never figured out a solution, maybe try softening up the already softback with some steam. I would keep going so as not to loose my rhythm, then come back and remove the bad staples and try again. Sorry Lo-down, wish I had better advise.

I used the Stanley Bostitch ( P6 ) I called them for a list of suppliers as my local guy would only sell me a case, 20 boxes @ 12.80, no way dude. Maybe this number is still good 800-556-6696 as I preferred using the Bostitch.

Sounds like you might need a wee bit, and I do mean a weeeee bit, of lubricant in the action parts of the stapler. Again, incase you missed the first two times I said it, just a weeee bit.

Hope this helps!

I'm wondering if the wire gauge of the Bostich staples is the same as the Crain staples. I just measured them and they are not round like I thought. The diameter measures .020" by .028"
Problem is they are a soft metal and they just seem to wad up instead of penetrating the carpet.
Half an hour+ is a bit long to bind a 22" by 34" rug doncha think?

D-40 or Wheel bearing grease?
Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Re: Binding stapler problems

I had a slap hammer stapler that would hang up. I used dry silicone spray on the row of staples before I put them in the feed tube, worked great.

I found some different staples........... they are .030" wide instead of .28" wide and they work like a charm.
.....8 or 9 out of 10 or more go in correctly. I hit the stapler with some Tri-flow and wiped some on the sides of the staples for good luck.
Big rug is done, now 5 smaller rugs left to go. I used hot glue instead of latex........ I was quite pleased with how it went. 145 feet of binding and 60 feet done. I'm headin off to finish in an hour. Appreciate the feedback fellas.

Re: Binding stapler problems

Not many people pay much attention to my posts anyway.

'Sides, my bills get bigger and bigger while my income gets smaller and smaller. I'm just trying to do something about it.

Come to think of it, my signature ads are no bigger than the previous signature banner. It's just different.

Hey Al, I have a binding machine, so for me, I have little experience with the instibind. However, I was asked to re-glue an insti bind stair runner that was applied to a Stanton looped Wilton. The problem was, the original fabricator was not consistent with the hot glue application. Too little will cause the tape to grin at the nosing. To much will ooze on face fibers. ---- Do Ya have any advise? Is it practice makes perfect ?

I became frustrated with the repair, as It's hard for me to embrace that type of connection. I like the integrity with the needle and thread, so I removed insti-bind and attached Serge tape. Bond was happy they sell both kinds. I was happy and more confident with the integrity of the tape. I must admit, I like the look of insti-bind Serge + rope, but having trouble embracing it.
