The knives we use for cutting sheet vinyl
I use a Shark for cut ins and just an Orcon with hook blades to make my cuts(thats just to save blades from the concrete. I used to use a Ward and I still love them but don't love the price of blades and how hard they are to find.

You can use a standard utility blade in a Ward knife.

Gary, you replied to an old topic, so I moved your post and its replies to a whole new topic.
Thanks,

I'm going to start trying other knives besides Stanley's because those little nubs that hold the blade tight are not lasting long enough.
I always loved the angle knives made by Armstrong, Dexter and Hyde but they have the same issue. By the time I get comfortable with one of those knives they're falling apart either at the blade holder or on the backside where I can't break the habit of using the solid end of the knife for rubbing down glue down carpet or carpet tile.

I used Hyde knives for years, but they don't seem to be the same quality, they won't hold an edge long enough now and they don't work for IVC type vinyls. I just use a standard utility/pad knife now.

I'm using a small, thin Irwin brand handle to hold hook blades, I had to modify it slightly with a dremel to get it to hold the Roberts blades.
I have a Stanley FatMax from about 10 years ago that is about to give up the ghost for my Util blades.
I'll probably buy a blue orcon to replace the FatMax because of that cold-rolled replaceable pin that holds the blades in. If I like it well enough I might get another for the hook blades but it's really nice to tell the difference by feel.

Probably would use something different if I patterned, but I can drop in and cut vinyl down, anywhere and it's sure quicker than making a pattern.

Ditto that Rusty. I've watched people pattern (with all due respect) and by the time many of them had the pattern done, I was close to being finished with installing the vinyl. I did pattern many years ago when doing hard goods, but seldom run across it any more.
I have always used a utility knife, unless I'm under a toe kick or similar, then I use a hook.

"the knives we use" are only as good as the hands holding them for me they work just as good making patterns as they do for freehand vinyl

Snap off blades for everything, I just do hard floorings, including marking MDF underlayment. I cut it twice from the pattern but do the final cut with a heavy duty Stanley blade as the snap off blades keep on snapping as I cut the underlayment on the 45. I also use a hook blade for trimming slithers off these domestic vinyls. Also a hook blade for commercial vinyls as they follow my cut marks
