Wood Anatomy and Moisture Relationship Class at NCSU

The Education Continues!

This October 7th and 8th, there will be more of the continuing education classes taught at the North Carolina State University Wood Extension Department. The instructors are Wood Scientists with PhDs who have hands on experience in the wood industry. They are not "classroom-only" instructors.

The class subjects will be Wood Anatomy with emphasizes on Wood Anatomy and Moisture Relationship; and Engineered Wood Compositions and what affects their appearance and performance.

The Wood Anatomy class subjects will be the reaction of wood to moisture loss or gain and how it is measured using meters. How accurate wood meters are and what variables influence the measurements. This is important information to protect your reports' accuracy. Those attending will leave knowing how and what manner to report our own sites measurements to avoid having our reports discredited. This is information to protect YOU. Last, how can moisture content at the time of milling be calculated accurately or not calculated.

The Engineered Wood class will cover such topics as warping, delamination, checks, and what range of environmental conditions should impact engineered wood flooring installed in the United States. What causes these problems and the knowledge-tools to understand what has happened. In what conditions should consumers, retailers, installers and manufacturers expect the product to perform or be maintained to perform to consumers' expectations.

Based upon their interaction with us, wood professionals and what we encounter, they performed experiments and do research to educate us explaining the science of what we see each day.

More details will follow. The cost will be either $300 or $350. Lunches are included in the tuition fee. I am in negations at this time for a group rate at a local hotel within ten minutes of the campus.

The classes qualify for WFCA funding, and continuing education credits for NWFA and IICRC members.

Class size is limited. The professors have repeatedly stated, no one learns in large classes since large groups limit and inhibit interaction between instructors and students. The goal is education, not profit.

Contact Selva Lee Tucker at selvatucker@charter.net to have your name added to the list. Evening telephone 864 238 5507.
