New to Konecto

Hello,

Let me start by saying I am a DIY guy and have installed several types of flooring in the past but Konecto is new to me and I have some very basic questions so maybe someone out there can help me out.

We have a home built in '69 that is a slab foundation. There was a water leak that went over and under the vapor barrier of our existing Pergo floor. Which has been removed and what we found was old glue down vinyl floor that was wet too of course. Anyway we scraped up the Vinyl floor and now have some foundation with a residual glue and some foundation clean. But the floor seems to be fairly flat no major dips of cracks that I can see. Anyway this brings me to my questions.

Do I need to be concerned about the Residual glue from old vinyl floor? If I need to remove what is the best method?

I was told by the floor dealer that I did not need a barrier but my Brother-in-law recommends that I put down a barrier anyway. He also recommended that I use roofing felt. First should I put a barrier down? Second, is it ok to use roofing felt?
If not roofing felt what type of barrier do you recommend for this floor?

Thanks to all for any help on this. It's a pretty big job for me over 600 sqft of the stuff so I want to do this right and tight because I am going to have to live with the results for a long time to come.

Thanks a bunch,

Paul

If the residual adhesive has any tack to it, it should be removed. If this is going to be too much of a mess to remove, then I would simply go over it first with a kraft paper. If you think you may have some problem with moisture in the exsisting floor, then use a saturated laminated kraft. Also known as AQUA-BAR. Don't know that I would use a roofing felt under this flooring.

AQUA-BAR B is suppose to be a true moisture barrier .. Last time i used it , i think it was $30.00 a roll ..

Re: New to Konecto

I wouldn't recommend using tar paper, builders felt, or any other asphalt type paper. Just scrape it up as best you can (to a shadow of it's former self) and tile away. The reason not to use the asphalt paper is that if it gets wet, it can end up bleeding through the new flooring.
