Problems bubbling up in my IVC vinyl flooring

I had the flexitec mega series installed August 2007. The installers were from the store where I purchased the vynil. They first applied glue to the peremiters and a week or two later I had nothing but bubbles thru out the entire floor. They came back and glued the entire floor and I still had bubble problems. This floor has been taken up so many times to be repaired that I am getting sick of it. Does anyone have a solution to my problem as the retailor has washed his hands of the whole thing. I am expecting to take him to small claims court. I have no faith in this type flooring

I moved your post to its own topic, Dick. You had originally replied to a very old topic that should have been left for dead.

Thanks for asking your questions here and

Re: Problems bubbling up in my IVC vinyl flooring

It sounds as if they may have not used the proper adhesive, a vinyl PSA and a carpet PSA are not the same. Also they may have cut it tight, thus causing the bubbles. It is reccommended to cut the vinyl at least 1/8 short all the way around the room and any other obstructions, hence, touching nothing vertical.

A Carpet One dealer showed us the latest specs for this product on Friday. No where does it state what kind of adhesive is to be used, let alone a brand. Oh Boy

One of the cash and carry stores is selling VCT adhesive for Flexitec. It might work, but I'm not trying it. I know they are both PSA's but, it's not what Flexitec reccommends.

Re: Problems bubbling up in my IVC vinyl flooring

IVC Group doesn't recommend a particular brand of pressure sensitive adhesive and do not make their own. I'm a long way from a bucket of any VCT adhesives, so I can't say if they claim to be PSAs.

Here is a link to the installation info IVC provides: Flexitec Resilient Flooring Quick Installation Guide

You can find other IVC Flexitec product brochures here: :: IVC Group US - luxury, vinyl, flooring :: - Product

Pics came through great. Have you moved your fridge since the last attempt to make the thing stick down?

Re: Problems bubbling up in my IVC vinyl flooring

......Bingo, here is what happened in my opinion...........the material was rolled backside out during transport to job, and probably left that way during the prep work. This should never happen. Always roll a fiber floor pattern side out prior to installing the material. Since it was rolled backside out, the material on the face tightened up, then when it was rolled out into the adhesive it starts to grow back to its original dimension. So when it started swelling back, it let go at the spot where the adhesive had less grabbing power, right at the fold line where the material was folded back to apply the adhesive. This line is drier than the rest of the floor being exposed longer than the other areas. This is where it will release.....always.......:coff ee:

Re: Problems bubbling up in my IVC vinyl flooring

No I haven"t tried moving my fridge as of this time. I have contacted another floor company to try and repair the bubble and they will be contacting me for a time and thanks to you people on this site I found a few things that I wouldn't have without your support. Number one I have checked the trim job on the vynil and have found that the vynil is fitting tight against the wall and cabinet areas. Number two is that the last time they applied the pressure sensitive glue they poured it on piles and spread it around with a paint brush instead of the roller. They relaid the vynil and the bubbles came back and the factory rep as he called himself than shot seam sealer into the bubble with a needle and pressed the floor down and these pictures were taken after his repair. He took moisture readings of the floor and found readings only where they applied the glue. The rest of the floor was zero for any moisture. Now they are trying to say that I have an environmental problem with my home. Would glue applied in this manner still shoe moisture a week or two later?

Thanks

Good point cp

Can you roll the adhesive on with a paint brush? or do you have to trowel it down? I know in carpet tiles my guys, roll the adhesive on with paint rollers and this is acceptable. I dont know about the floor in question I dont sell the floor in question, So i yeild the rest of my floor time.

Do your carpet tile guys know how to spread adhesive with notched trowels? Paint rollers would certainly apply too much glue in some areas, not enough in others. Same would be said about IVC, first read that in their original specs, we busted a gut laughing
