Earthscape flooring & dogs
I'm interested in the Earthscapes Platinum and Titanium series floors, but with 4 big dogs in the house I'm worried about punctures and tears. I got some samples from my local CarpetOne and found them easy to puncture with a screwdriver, but that's not exactly a scientific test. Without being able to live with the floor for a few months, it's hard for me to really know how tough this material is.
Anyone have experience with Earthscape and dogs? I'd love your feedback.

Boxman,
If you're still around, I'd be more than happy to talk to you about Earthscapes. I find it to be a wonderful product, one that my great-granchildren will probably play on!

Pick a different product.

Thanks for your response - how do you find this stands up to rips and punctures? My primary concern is dogs but chairs (pushing yourself off from the dining room table, for example) are also a concern.

Re: Earthscape flooring & dogs
Boxman,
Since Earthscapes became available in the USA I have sold over a thousand square yards of it. I work for a Carpet One store, and our owner has it in his sunroom and both of his bathrooms, two of my co-workers have it in their kitchens, and I have it in my laundry, kitchen, full and half baths. Love it! Great look, easy to clean, on and on ...
Let me add that my 75-pound dog has a skin problem and itches herself all the time. Enough to blow out spots in the carpet (remove the twist). She doesn't hurt this vinyl. Just make sure you have a full-spread installation and yes, use felt pads under your chair legs as a precaution. Although, I don't have pads under my bar stool legs and have no problem.
Notice the warranty against rip, tear, gouge and indent.

Re: Earthscape flooring & dogs
If he is concerned and from his tests he found it to be relatively easy to puncture then perhaps a different product would be in order.
I'd suggest ceramic tile.

Laughing, since as a saleperson I test and abuse my samples, so attempted to run a screwdriver through an Earthscapes Platinum, and there was no way. But, I am a wimp. Can't even lift a roll of carpet pad. LOL. Asked my warehouse guy to try puncturing the Earthscapes, and he couldn't either. That stuff does not puncture in the air, and so no way it will when secured to a floor, which is real life.

Re: Earthscape flooring & dogs
So why did Boxman find it so easy to puncture?
Also if you can't punsture it how will you cut it to install it?

If I lay an Earthscape sample on my concrete and hit it with my iron fence pliers (the sharp end) I can puncture it easily. It's a bit harder to puncture with the screwdriver; you have to stab at it pretty hard.
Admittedly these are extreme tests; I certainly hope my dogs' claws aren't that dangerous but still, this gives me pause.
A few days ago, I used double-sided tape and firmly secured a bunch of the earthscape samples around my back door, where the dogs have scratched the hell out of my existing hardwood floor as they scramble in & out of the house. They haven't yet scratched the samples at all, I think because the earthscape material has an inherent "give" to it, which actually allows dog claws to push down into the material without scratching (the material just bounces back up).
I'm encouraged by that but still a bit leery of getting punctures, because the earthscape flooring looks like it would be really hard to repair (because it comes in huge sheets, you can't do spot repair).
