Re: Cushioned vinyl vs. traditional vinyl
I understood what you meant. Here, 420 sq ft of top of the line Flexitec, I don't know about Airstep. would run around $1300. Skimcoating and installing would probably take one day. . I am installing 216 sq ft of Flexitec for my sister that she gave less than $300 for.

Re: Cushioned vinyl vs. traditional vinyl
In Boise we would get about 500.00 for skimcoating, installation, plus extras like appliance removal, base, etc. (The store/customer would furnish the adhesive and sealer)
I agree it should be about 1 easy day.

Re: Cushioned vinyl vs. traditional vinyl
Installed my first Airstep job yesterday. Seems like nice stuff to work with. I will not loose lay or perimeter. Full spread only for me.
My first Sobella job buckled after about a month or so. Turns out the layout was to intricate for a loose lay. Fortunately it was an easy fix. Pull it back a glue it.
I have not seen a good perimeter glued floor yet since Armstrong Designer II.

Re: Cushioned vinyl vs. traditional vinyl
Wow, either prices here in NJ are much higher than in your areas, or these retailers are totally ripping me off. The StrataMax guy is charging $925 to install loose lay, no skim coat just minor patching as he put it.
Air Step guy charging $1150 to skim coat and loose lay install. hummmm
Both said no need to use adhesive.
Too bad none of you live up here...I'd hire you

I could nearly include airfare and still beat them........and make money.
Seriously....
but there are members here that are in your area. They may not have anything on the Pro Directory yet..but it's worth a check out. Try this: Look for New Jersey Floor Installers in the PRO Directory if he can't do it he may be able to direct you.

Re: Cushioned vinyl vs. traditional vinyl
Depends on the cost of living in your state , ins [etc].

Re: Cushioned vinyl vs. traditional vinyl
Wow, that's unfortunate. I know we have a number of members who are installers in the New Jersey area. Times are tough, but here's a potential customer willing to pay for a quality installation. But this opportunity will fly right past all those pro installers from NJ and other areas who have been participating in these topics: Is Work Still Slow?, installing full time, How to make more money? and others.
If only they could see the value and opportunity in having a listing in our PRO Directory. This is the second consumer member looking for a good installer in as many days - not to mention the hundreds of non-registered visitors that go to our directory every day. Maybe because the listing is free to all pro members here they think it ain't worth it. Maybe if I started charging for the listings like they do for a full page ad in the phone directory. It's pretty much the same thing when you consider that an awful lot of people are going to the computer before they go to the phone book when they look for products and services.
How 'bout this; The Floor Pro Community now has 2 PRO Directory plans: - PLAN #1 is free, just like it always has been. You can post pictures, your resumé, contact info, logo, links to your website and if you need any assistance, I will help you any way I can.
- PLAN #2 is $100.00. You can post pictures, your resumé, contact info, logo, links to your website and if you need any assistance, I will help you any way I can.
Now we're cookin'! We should have dozens of new listings very soon.
Jim
