This will help keep the other thread a general discussion on new forums. This new topic is specific to a tool review and discussion forum. Thank you to hookknife for bringing it up.

I like the idea but we need to be careful of situations like the SDN incident on FCI

If a person can't discuss a tools shortcomings as well as its attributes then there isn't much sense in having a tool forum. To discuss only good things would only serve as advertising for the maker and they would love that I'm sure. But again, a little common sense would be in order.
If the mention of brand names and promotional comments are restricted to the tradesmen then there shouldn't be a problem. If a manufacturer finds his way in here hawking his product then that should be deleted immediately.
The POLL should have one more category: "With some reservation."

I wouldn’t mind if there was a section that manufacturers could announce or advertize their products. By all means keep the rest of the forums ad free but a section specifically for advertisement purposes might be useful for all of us, provided advertisers are only allowed to pimp their products every so often and not constantly spam the forum.

Where were you a week ago?
I think the membership has expressed a desire to have a forum for the discussion of tools and reviews of some sort. It will be up to staff how to approach it. This site will make every effort to play fair with everyone. It is a flooring professionals site that encompasses all aspects of the industry. We do not as yet have a manufacturers forum either but that should be considered in order to attract all members of the industry. Certainly one segment may be more heavily represented than another but we will not become a one-sided site. TheFloorPro.com is for all PROs. Some may require some encouragement to act that way.

I'm a slow reader!
I would invite a type of manufacturers area where they could post their ads and links to their own websites and specific pages. A beneficial billboard of sorts that wouldn't allow anyone to followup with slamming any particular product for any reason. That can be done in another area. This (billboard) would encourage them to give us firsthand information about their new products and what they are doing in their world.
Few manufacturers have ever participated in any of these forums for very long (openly) and the reason for that is simple: Every damned time they post anything hawking their goods they get torpedoed by disrespectful comments from adversaries. Whether it is a competitor or a tradesman that has some kind of a gripe, they get hammered.

If a manufacturer wants our opinion, he shauld send out some free tools for our review. I'll be glad to oblige.

We have added 2 new forums that I hope will answer the requests made here. There is a Tools, Equipment and Supplies forum to discuss these products and their uses. Don't be shy about posting links to the suppliers but no manufacturer or distributor may advertise or promote their products here.
Something that will allow the announcement and news about new products (of all types of floorcovering related items) is the Product News and Reports forum. That forum is a "no reply" forum to allow manufacturers, developers and distributors an opportunity to introduce or report on their products, services and other news in report style format. You will be able to provide feedback in the form of thread rating and the subject of these threads may be brought up in the relevant forums for discussion.
I would also like to invite any of you to submit articles or reviews for publication on prominent pages of our site. These articles should be well written and illustrated, include links to relevant websites and separately, a short bio of the author (with a picture if possible).
Thank you all for your suggestions and your support of TheFloorPro.com.
