Search engines read all the code of a page from top-left, to bottom-right. You direct a spider to relevant content with special code, like using head tags (<h1></h1>, <h2></h2>, etc.), paragraph tags (<p></p>), list tags (<li></li>) and others. Another way to guide spiders is with keyword rich URLs (addresses). Image file names are part of a URL. <img src="/images/home_13.jpg" /> doesn't mean much to a search engine, but <img src="http://www.tucksfloorinspectionservice.com/images/fci-logo.jpg" /> does. What's more is that <img src="http://www.tucksfloorinspectionservice.com/images/floor-covering-installer-magazine-logo.jpg" /> is even better.

I finally got my web maker program to do something I wanted, but after you say the image keyword thing, I'm wondering if it make all my text in the adjustable box, an image file and not text???
Probably not. The webmaster Selva had designed his site in an image program and then "sliced" up the large image into small pieces. He included the text of the home page in the image. He put the large image together using HTML code, so just about the only content was a bunch of URLs for images. And all the images on most of the pages do not have relevant names or complete addresses, so none of it makes any sense to a search spider and anyone using a search engine to find something like "flooring failure", a term he uses more than once, they will never find Selva's site because spiders can't read the text in the image.

You aren't using an image program to make the pages of your site, so you shouldn't have that problem. But you still need to give search engines every advantage in finding your content. Unfortunately, an inexpensive website creation program doesn't always provide the ability or tools to do that.

Re: help

I'd love to design a new website for you, CP. The cost depends on what you want done and how you want to handle continuing maintenance. I like websites that look good, but I also like to adhere to good coding habits. You can find webmasters offering sites for ridiculously low prices - just like cut-rate flooring - but I believe you get what you pay for. I'm not interested in doing cheap sites, I'm interested in doing quality.

If you want to discuss specifics, just send me an email or give me a phone call. For the most basic of sites, you can expect to spend a minimum of several hundred dollars. It will work in all the most popular screen resolutions (look at yours in 1024x768), will be very search spider friendly and will reflect the aesthetics, quality and professionalism you promote in your own business.

Re: help

well, since I rarely do mill work anymore,
I had counted on this site to generate some money, and no calls were coming in,
only referrals, a friend, who job prevents him from working outside his office, he is in charge of the computers at a major state university, looked at my site after another person warned me about the images.
He asked if I knew a "computer smart" person and I said, yes.
So, I need to get to work on this as fast as I can,,,,
what Mr. Admint also did not tell you guys, this "person" also had a link to him in some "key" words just listed, in the "view Source" part,,,
so, anything we can do this weekend to get started?
what if I re type everything tonight, save it in a file, can you upload them after deleting the "text images" so I can start to be found?
I will rewrite some other stuff to also upload,,,maybe post some "settled reports"
slt

Re: help

Unfortunately, Selva, your web design is not easily editable. Although some of your other pages have search engine readable text, your main page is all images. My suggestion is to start with a new design that has all the elements of "well formed" code. It doesn't have to be fancy to be attractive or well formed.

Re: help

Thats kool,
I would still like to use the photos my old friend, Mr. Hunt provided me,,, and make sure this time he gets the credit my designer did not do as requested,
I will rewrite the stuff in text, and email the photos , they do not have to fad in and out, and, lets keep it simple and easy, can that be done?
and just delete it after I rewrite the text?
I have another article I am submitting,
I will post that an a few reports,
slt

Re: help

That would be fine, Selva. Just email me the photos and text to the email address I posted previously. I'll make sure David gets proper credit. I'll work on a new design - please send me your ideas.

Re: help

Mr. Admint,
I remembered I had a web design program on my mac,
I opened it up, and it is easy with their program!
I am almost done, and for my certifications, they said there is a location I have on their server that will store my scans for my certs, and I can have a link to them,,,I am going to scan them this weekend, and, then, I will have it ready for you to upload and do all the things that will make it work! how about that, this fat, ugly, stupid old man found a simple program I can use!
sometimes, I even fool myself and I found myself being, well, "SPECIAL"! oh well, maybe no special but, how about, happy?
