Unexpected Down-Time

Hi All,

Somehow, some spammer has got hold of my email server info and is sending out spam with it. I have been told by my server's host that they are going to shut me down within 24 hours if it isn't resolved. I have been in contact with them, but they don't do business with the telephone, so I can't talk to a live person.

If you find the website inaccessible sometime after 1:00PM Pacific time tomorrow, it is because of the above problem. I will do whatever I can to fix it, but if it means changing servers, it could be a 2 or 3 day delay. I'm sorry. My hope is that a real person at my host will be able to see that the culprit is not me and there is an easy fix to prevent it from continuing, or happening again.

Re: Unexpected Down-Time

You realize, if this is off-line for 2 or 3 days, I will have to get a hobby. or will have to talk to my wife.

Yeah well, I put chemicals in the bytes here so you get addicted. Hopefully that will make you come back.

Rusty, I'll talk to your wife if you'll talk to mine. That way we don't have to remember anything.

Re: Unexpected Down-Time

If I had to talk to my wife I would interrupt her book and she wouldn't be happy with me. Really I sometimes wonder if she is anyway. Naw just kidding, got a keeper---this time.

Re: Unexpected Down-Time

This has happened to me also.
I used to build, maintain and run my church web site as well as mine and my wifes.
Some hacker got in and put in something that sent out some spam ebay crap.
The server company contacted me and said they were going to shut me down and acted like I had something to do with it!
This aggravated me to no end....
Then eBay as well as pay pal shut down my accounts.
They also accused me of installing the spam software...
I still have not been able to resolve this with them and still cannot have an account with either one of them, and I'm to ticked off at them to pursue it any further.
I found the stuff on the server and deleted it.
After 2 weeks, it was back.
I contacted the server and they said it was MY responsibility to safe guard my account with them! I said, hey it YOUR server... someone is breaking into YOU not me!
They claimed that there were measures that I could take to insure this did not happen but would not go into what it was that could be done.
I think it was a bunch of crap myself.

I closed my account with them and transfered all my churches and my personal files to a server who said they had safe guards in place to insure that this would not happen.
I had no more problems after that.

I hope that you do not have the same difficulty's as I did.

Re: Unexpected Down-Time

As it turns out, it was my fault for thinking the flooring blogs I set up a while back for other pros (aFloorPro.net) would be secure and no one would abuse it. I don't know who it was, but they never did start a blog. Even though I shut that down for lack of participants, someone was able to keep the email address and didn't use it until just recently.

I found the account and there was still over 1,100 emails in the queue waiting to be sent. A lot more had already been sent.

Anyway, it was not a flooring person. Just some scammer-spammer trying to pretend to be apple.com and skype.com. I hope it hasn't caused my server IP addresses to be added to any black lists. Time will tell, but it looks like I am in my server host's good graces again. And you guys can continue to be fed the addicting chemical bytes injected into your finger tips every time you click a link into The Floor Pro Community. hehehehehehehehahahahahahahahaha
