Problems with the new design

Please post your problems and questions here. I will try to deal with them as quickly as possible. Be sure to be specific. What page are you on when you have the problem? What are you trying to do? What happens when you do it? And what were you expecting or looking for when you had the problem? If you can, post a link to the page, so I can visit it from here and see if I can duplicate the problem.

Thanks,

Jim

Re: Site Outage Soon

Everything seems to be working fine for me so far. No issues getting in, didn't have to login, didn't have to dump any temporary files. Just takes a little getting-use-to!

Now let's see.......
WTH did he do with the User CP?

OH!
What's a "trackback"? What does it do for me? And why do I need one of them?

Good deal, glad it was pretty straight forward.

Left sidebar, just below the navigation module. It's got big letters that say "User CP." It's the new welcome block for the home page and forum home.

It is a way for us to get more traffic and better ranking in search engines. When you link to us from another forum or blog that uses link-back technology, it lets the spiders know. Same way the other way around... when you link to another website in you posts here, it helps them. That's an over-simplified explanation. I can get much more technical, if you want.

Re: Problems with the new design

Okay, I was under the impression that a lot of people wanted something real light - almost white, if not dead white. Maybe not.

So, I made a textured background that isn't white any more. Please, the next person who wants something different, please start a new topic in this forum and do a poll. I wanna make sure we have a comfortable color to read from.

That won't be necessary! CP and I are happy, that's all that matters.

Well...there is just one thing...

When the V-bulletin box comes up and says "no new threads to view", there is no way to get back to the forums.

There is a "breadcrumb" navigation (PS - notice the cool new effect when you click an image):

Re: Problems with the new design

Here's my only suggestion, and I think Bud mentioned this a few days ago: There is a place to click on "new posts" at the top of each page, but it would be helpful if there was one at the bottom of each page so we didn't have to scroll back to the top of a long page to go to the next new post.

Having said that, I think everything on here looks great, and if the worst thing in my life was having to scroll up to the top of the page every time, I'd be doing pretty good.

Re: Problems with the new design

I am trying to find a way to do better navigation. It'll come together.

You do know that when you click on a link on the New Posts page to go to a thread to read, you can click your back button to get back there.

See the bread crumb navigation at the bottom of this thread? I am going to try to get the New Posts to sit in the lower-right hand corner of that box. It'll look good there and not take any more room. I got more pressing problems though. The Forum Tools and the Search this Forum drop-down on the forum list page isn't working. I use it all the time, so I gotta get that fixed. There's no page titles at the top of the page either and that's not good for the search engines. And the list goes on and on.

I should take a nap and forget about all this crap. Over 30 hours now. Sheesh!

Go to bed Jim. We will survive for a few hours, regardless of what might not be working perfectly.

I think it looks great. Makes me want to do some remodeling to the boards I run. Nah...

Did you click the link? It takes you to a page that shows all new posts and posts that aren't new, but that you haven't read yet - unless you had previously marked all read. Does the page tell you there's no new posts?
