Website Navigation

Tonight we have much better navigation in the side panel. Click the links and see what you got. I hope you will find these useful. This same sidebar navigation isn't on every page. I will be adding new navigation to a number of pages. Some will be more abbreviated than this one, but there will be some sort of good navigation on every page in due course.

Please let me know if you want something more or have any other ideas about the way you get around the site.

Jim

Re: Website Navigation

I clicked the new posts link and the page came up OK but there the navigation buttons and links are missing. No place to make forums read or go anywhere else for that matter....

Re: Website Navigation

I know. Not very good navigation in a number of places on the forum. I'll get there. But the navigation we do have here and on the http://www.thefloorpro.com/community/online.php page (that one has the abbreviated navigation module) works okay, right?

Re: Problems with the new design

Always somethin'...

What's not working? I need details. Do you click on the little group of people icon in the "What's Going On At The Floor Pro Community?" block at the bottom of the forum home page? You can also click the text link just above that icon that says, "Currently Active Users." Both should take you to this page: http://www.thefloorpro.com/community/online.php The only people who can't go to that page are unregistered or not logged in visitors.

Let me know.

Navigation buttons/quick links
(actually all the sub topics on 'quick links')

also nav buttons/ FAQS

also, probably unrelated, I can't save my location on the google map. It takes me to a page that says "cannot open XML file"

Re: Problems with the new design

Hmmm, I just checked all the links in the navigation in 3 different browsers (IE7, FF3 and Opera9) as a regular member, a guest and as the admin and the always worked as they should for those users. What browser are you using? I wonder if anyone else is having the problem? Maybe whoever is reading this will try the navigation links and let us know (we're talking about the navigation in the side bar, near the top, on the left side).

The Google Map needs to be updated for this version of the forum. I am not even sure that will work either. The map developer (not Google, the guy who designed the plug-in for vBulletin forum software) doesn't keep up like he should. With only 63 members out of 1,800 using it to pin themselves, we might just have to accept the loss of that feature. I'll try to keep it, if I can.

Re: Problems with the new design

Hey Barry, I think I figured out the problem you were having. You were clicking on links to forum pages (like to go to Who's Online) when you were NOT in the forum. Maybe you were on the home page, or the Articles page, or someplace like that and the links didn't work. You got an error page that had a big TFP logo and it said Oops, 404 page not found - something like that, right?

Well, it was my fault again and I forgot to code the links to take that into account. Now the links all work, no matter what part of the website you are on. Sorry about that.

Re: Website Navigation

Jim,

I logged off to see what the average Joe sees. when I try to log back in on the main page it won't let me.
If I log in on the page I get after I email you I can get right on, but next time I try it is the same routine.

I don't usually log off, but I do clear my cookies fairly regularly which I am thinking will leave me in the same boat.

Re: Website Navigation

Thank you for pointing that out, Barry. With the dozens of hard-coded forms that are used here, it's hard to find the ones that need to be edited so they don't cause errors or problems for the members. That one is fixed now. I appreciate your testing it out and letting me know it was broke-ed.

R'gards,

Jim

Re: Website Navigation

I don't think the 'search' feature is working from the home page. (It does work from the forums page)

Ummmm... no maybe you should try it again???

No, I am just kidding. Did you get my thank you email? I really do appreciate the donation. Broke a record and got 2 donations today - thank you too, Jerry. 'Course, I think Jerry just felt guilty about waking me up so early this morning and keeping me talking on the phone for so long. You know what you gotta do first thing when you get up, but I didn't wanna make that kinda noise while Jerry was listening.

I know, too much information.

Took a look at the donations page and I see where you could have wondered where the button was. I think I fixed it by changing the text above it. I have to use the button PayPal supplies.

Thanks again,

Jim
