Daily Tip screen or topic

Hope this is the right spot for this.

Anyone up for a daily tip topic or screen? Maybe we could all contribute some short tips and someone of 'T's choosing could pick and post one a day. ????

Whatever, it sounds fine to me. You don't need me pickin' an' choosin' - just go for it.

PS: Please do NOT add your tips to this topic. It's a discussion about adding topics to other forums. I moved one such post to what I hope you will agree is an appropriate forum for tips concerning hardwood or laminate floors: http://www.thefloorpro.com/community...te-floors.html

It would be great if we had similar topics in the tile, carpet and vinyl forums for consumers too, so have at it (forum guides). Oh, actually, we have one such topic in the vinyl forum: http://www.thefloorpro.com/community...ring-your.html But the other consumer forums don't.

Jim, I had in mind something like a daily tip (maybe pop up) but not necessarily a pop up. maybe something like a 'tip of the day'

Oh, I see. Yeah, that's a great idea. I can make that kind of thing a module that shows on the home page (and others), on the right hand side. The problem is, as much as we would like to have a "tip of the day" it would prob'ly only be "the occasional tip". No doubt we could get one a day for a while, but these kinds of things generally peter out after a while.

There is a special module that will grab a random block of text, so if we fail to add a tip every single day, it will still get something up there. I'll check into it and see what I can do. You guys can post your tips on the forum (in the appropriate forum) and I will sort them out later.

Well, we already have 32 forums. That's quite a lot. I would prefer to see if we can just draw from an existing forum first. But if it requires a separate forum, that's what we'll do.

As you know computers are not my forte. Run with the idea as you will. I realy hope it works!!!!

It seems that if google (or the others) searched this new topic/tip it might draw more hits.

But I really don't know.

They didn't have a module that worked (the one I was thinking of was several years old and a lot of people were having trouble with it). What I did was to modify an existing module and create a new forum, as you suggested, Barry. The module is visible on the website home page (The Floor Pro Community - sharing information & resources where consumers & DIYers come for answers and flooring professionals help each other).

Only staff and flooring professionals can start new topics there, but anyone else, including unregistered visitors can post replies. Let's try to keep the requests for support out of there and move them to their more appropriate forums. All staff have moderating privileges there, so they can move, edit or whatever.

I can make further edits to make it work better for us, but I am limited to the functions that module had originally. Thanks for the great idea. I hope all our visitors find it useful.

It is a good idea .. Do you mean something flooring related , or something like Caution: be careful of the toes you step on today , They may be attached to the arse you have to kiss tomorrow .. ?
