Re: Problems with the new design

Posts made in Serious Discussion About Nothing Important and A Floor Pro Comedy Tour forums do not increase your post count. In addition, some old topics in those forums are automatically pruned from the database. Before the new forum software was installed, post counts were accumulated in those forums, so when they are pruned, your post count decreases under certain circumstances.

I thought about doing a database repair that would reflect accurate post counts for everyone. But I didn't want to get a lot of complaints from members who post a lot in the off-topic forums and all of a sudden they lose half their post count.

Jim

Re: Post Count

Well, the inevitable had to happen sometime. Today was the day. Many of you will notice a reduction in your post count. Some will be hundreds lower. I have already started to get PMs and emails about it.

None of your posts have been deleted. The discrepancy is several months ago there was a software update to the forum. It gave me more options and I changed the way the software counts posts. Specifically, those posts made in non-flooring forums, as I indicated above in a previous post to this topic. About an hour ago, I did some work to the database (the huge file that holds all the forum information, including post counts) and it reset your count to what it is without the counts that used to be tallied in those forums the software doesn't count anymore.

Sorry. Post count isn't important anyway. Quality counts, not quantity. There wasn't any way for me to protect the old counts when doing the maintenance to the database. I apologize for alarming you. Again, all your posts are still there, they just aren't tallied in a few forums that have nothing to do with flooring.

Jim

Re: Post Count

Well I only lost about a hundred, so that must mean most of mine have been flooring related. Sometimes I impress myself.

Re: Post Count

I lost over 300, so guess I'll be careful what forums I post in from now on.

Just an old, worn out, part time, crapet layer.

I hope not. I wouldn't want people to post only if they can get a number next to their name. I enjoy reading the non-flooring posts too.
