Floorcovering Installation & Maintenance Tips |
| Tile Cleaning & Maintenance Advice |
|
- by Jerry Thomas

What advice are you providing your clients for cleaning / maintaining tile jobs? Lets separate it into two categories..... showers and floors. I have been advising them to use a PH neutral cleaner, but the women want to know something more specific than that. Just gathering good information so I can print out a maintenance tip sheet to leave with them.

| What makes a quality carpet |
|
- by Peter Kodner

I started this thread to follow up on posts in the Carpet and Indoor Air Quality thread to have some discussions on helping consumers understand the myriad of factors that should be considered when making an investment of the magnitude of floor coverings, in this case, specifically carpet.
Mr. Tappet, IMHO, one of the most knowledgeable men in our industry, brought up wool as being... [Read More]

| Laminate or Hardwood Installation Tips Anyone? |

Here's one I used for a Wilsonart tile install. Angles are hard to measure and fit in any circumstance. Leaving a 1/4" gap is harder with 45's or other angles. This is simple, costs nothing, and is accurate.
Put a 1/4 inch spacer against the wall, and make a mark with an erasable marker on the scrap aluminum of your choice, or use a fine line permanent one. (Rubs off easy with... [Read More]

Some may be thought of as common knowledge but then again, it may be new to someone else. One thing I do, is to use spray silicone on my wall trimmer. It makes it slippery (o.k. greasy for you Chuck) fast.
Or how bout when you've finished stretching in a room and then notice a place where the strip is pulling up? A well placed finsh nail or two through the top can save pull up and... [Read More]

As a regular participant of various Internet forums pertaining to ceramic and stone tile I see volumes of valuable information surface from time to time and I always seem to lose it. Then a search ensues which may or may not be prove productive.
So...
I think I'll just start filing those little tidbits of information here for future reference.

| Tricks Of The Vinyl Trade |
|
- by Don Monfils

I didn't see any tips for vinyl installations, so here are a few I find work well.
To help eliminate a glue line ( where you stop and start gluing in the center) I will lay down 2" masking tape at the center line, glue to the tape, and then remove the tape before laying the vinyl into the glue.( this gives you a very clean glue line.)
When gluing the second half I leave... [Read More]

Q) What are the different types of tiles you can use in a bathroom and what are the advantages/disadvantages of each?
A) There are several types of tile available. They fall into two general groups: ceramic and natural stone. I'll take these one at a time:

Some of you already know that The Floor Pro Community is going to get a new design from the ground up. It's as close to being ready as it ever will be. Therefore, the website will be shut down sometime in the next day or two for several hours. At that time, you will not be able to access anything and you may get error messages or page not found notices.
We will be back, alive and more beautiful than before. Not only will we have a new coat of paint and signage, but there will be some interesting new features and functions. I know that you may have questions and may even experience problems. I will try my best to make the transition easy and answer any questions you have.
This will be your only notification of the outage. I am making a site-wide backup now and doing the last minute preparations for the changes. The... [Read More]
